The batik I had did the same thing. Maybe it's something in my soil? Shrug!

I hope broken color goes away! I had one that was sold to me as Boundless and it is coming up black with a bunch of yellow flecks in it. Interesting to see what it will look like when it blooms out. It's definitely not Boundless with those flecks of broken color. Will post a pic when it blooms so someone can ID it.

I thought they looked the same too. I wonder what would be the coincidence of us getting the same Iris named Ziggy from two different vendors? I got mine from the local Iris lady...

Pretty good I guess if it came from Schreiners. Another reason I'm done with them!

Here is my Ziggy, also from Schreiners;

I think it's more of a smear than broken.

When I had Brindled Beauty, also a broken pattern, it morfed into a solid color with one rhizome. I got rid of the whole thing, so I don't know if that rhizome would have continued to produce solid color. I understand that the broken color comes from some kind of virus.

Hah! So what you're saying is that we can get healthy rhizomes and they can get sick (rot, etc.) -- but we can also get sick Irises (broken color) and they can get well?????

Mary Ann - I have a Batik that is also reverting to a more solid color. And it's also a Schreiners. I will have to say they sell some very expensive NOID's.

Batik was hybridized by Allen Ensminger in Nebraska. the tulips may have been a virus, but the irises are caused by an erratic gene in the plicata series. I don't think that they 'revert' just constantly changing & may not show the broken color at times

This is my Holy Kosmoly from today. It is almost at times a solid pastel. I bought it for the big blue flecks, smears and darts. I am not fond of it right now. One more year. If I don't get spots, flecks, dots, smears etc. it is out of here.

Your 'hideous' Iris would get the love it deserves in our garden, if you want to show it the door.
