My dog has been doing a great job keeping the squirrels in everyone else' yard!
Seen in my backyard this afternoon...A Sandhill Crane family out for a stroll..the other parent was just out of the photo bringing up the rear.

Lindsey, that is just beautiful! I love it!

Klaus trapped 4 Squirrels so far, as they were not only ripping every single Currant of the plants without even eating them, they also learned how to climb up the netting to get into the Elderberries which are now setting fruit. They are two more which are begging to be relocated, since this is not a Squirrel Buffet.

I've never seen sandhill baby, that one is too cute. My BIL had never seen the cranes up close and when I told him they would eat out of your hand he was like a little kid. It was 3 years ago and he is still talking about it.

My house had been in a rental program for 10 years before I moved in.. Apparently one of the tenants used to feed this one at the table on the patio.. I was STUNNED when it walked over at happy hour to see what I was going to share. These guys are really large up close.. Even larger after a glass of wine!

Yikes, that big strong beak looks like it's right at eye level, too! Kind of neat to have a tame one, except I have heard of them pecking at people if they feel like the young ones are threatened.

Orange eyes! Who knew?

So I look out of the OC window and notice something is looking back at me. I took two pictures of the opossum through the screen and then went out for a better shot. He didn't seem to be concerned..

Seven squirrels? You guys are good at this. I may have to hire you to take out our herd.

Crackers with LOTS of Peanut butter! Make a few bites with that as a trail into the trap and place the biggest piece at the other end of the trap so they have to release the trigger mechanism to close it. Like clockwork!!
We hadn't done any trapping in a few years and this year their population was totally out of control. I wouldn't mind them if they weren't so darn destructive. The Rabbits eat at least whatever they nibble on. These Squirrels just destroy if the mood strikes them. Every few years you get one which is just nuts!
They are all hopefully happy playing in our gorgeous park along the local river now. Smiling

Lindsey, those stork pictures are just beautiful!

Jim...I would watch that opossum. I have heard if you see them in the daylight that might be a sign of rabies. Pls. be careful with him. That wood stork is nice.

Ursula...I have a trap I need to get out and catch some of those little 'destoryers' and take them off.
HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Aww, didn't anybody teach you not to wake the baby, Jim? It's just a little 'possum, and they're nocturnal so was probably sleeping in that nice shady spot.
There's probably a nice orchid-scented breeze coming out of your OC there, too. What a nice place for a nap!

I've had a family of blue jays around the feeders for the last month or so. The three young ones like to bathe and splash in my water lily pond but I haven't been able to sneak up on them to get pictures doing that yet. Here's one of the young ones eyeing me, and a parent at the seed cake.

Gawky little red-bellied woodpecker with no red on him yet, and his dad not sharing the feeder very nicely with a mourning dove.

I think the opposums have to be taught to be nocturnal...at least if they're hungry. I have pics. somewhere in my pc from years ago of two babys happily eating cat food...much to the disgust of my three outdoor cats.

We have raccoons and possums around all day here and people who move down from the north are always shocked to see them in daylight. The raccoons are pretty much all rabid (according to DNR) but the possums are generally clean.

Great bird pics Elaine. Blue Jays, despite their noisiness, are so beautiful.
