Jim, those look great! What fun! Have you packaged those in plastic bags before? (I thought you were supposed to store onions and garlic in paper bags so they don't root.)

DnD I have stored them in everything , they root anyway (some of them )
And since these are for cool weather or winter, planting i don't see that as a problem , (I was always told to store the in the dark to prevent that (dry dark room or cellar
Garlic bubils drying out that is a problem I will wait to get more onions the Garlic I have to take now (bubils ) Clove pieces are possible later ,

Depends if I up to that as the trade begins .

LoL, I don't know if it changes your response, but I had tried to type 'rot' and my auto-correct apparently changed it to 'root'.

I'm wishing I had onions this year, but I'm definitely planting some next year, that's for sure.

These are egyptian Walking onions They taste much better this year ,
I have 100's if not 1000's of these , Here you can see ( a not so good photo ) only it does show the bulbs sitting on top of the green onion stalk ,
Air dry mesh bag or re plant anytime ,
I have never had any of them rot , others , lots of times

The snake like loop is where one tried to grow already

My seedlist is only preliminary I do have one or two of some done Since there are 11 members so far some I may be able to do 11 offers of ,? as is a question .of what is ,
There will be many omissions though as several of my plants I have no old seeds of or they aren't developed until late , and some others that have failed
The red Volunteer seems to be the only well developed daylily and it will be close , about three weeks to their finish it appears as .

Oh Jim, you enticer, you! :o)
Looking good!

I meant to respond to the suggestion about a possible "want" list for the swap. I think this would be a great idea, personally.

And Jim brings up a question I had - I thought the max # per type of seed was 3? Did I read that wrong? I did post more than 3 on my "have"/trade list of those items I had more of.

Val, there is no maximum number of offerings, only a minimum: three seed packs required to participate.

The confusion may have come in because I said it was okay to have three seed packs of a single variety of seed, that still qualifies someone to join.

I just harvested some cottage garden petunia seed today along with more dianthus. I need to look over my gardening notes to try and figure out what variety of dianthus. I just know its perennial and isn't fragrant.

The petunias are nice but they aren't like the ones you buy for bedding. These are ramblers that keep growing & blooming all season. Nice lilac color and something loves to pollinate it but it needs LOTS of room to spread!

Here it is taking over one bed.

Thumb of 2016-08-07/bxncbx/3b5358

Believe it or not, there is also dianthus, salpiglossis and Sweet William in that bed also.

Jim, when you harvest your walking onions, do you eat the bulbs (onions) that are forming at the top of the plant? As you can tell I have never grown these before, and am more a flower grower then veggies...tho I am trying to Branch out a little

Bxn the petunias are lovely for t hose who have the room...what color r yr dianthus?

Val , yes that is actually the way to harvest them (the little onion bulbs onthe top ) Every season they have a different taste , Laste year they were not so good to my taste buds , this year they been delicious with Roast or Hamburger ,
I like easy to grow plants

Drop them in the ground anytime , they grow , Like most Allium spring and fall they taste better and grow better in cool weather , these Walking onions are my summer fill when other aren't as good ,

My flowers did not do to well this season , Cosmos , Marigold all blooming usually early summer ,still they have not bloomed this year , plants look okay , no blooms ,, a weird year I guess ,

The big red Morning glories have vines all over the place and no blooms on them either ,

Yes I'm grumbling some ,,

Val the dianthus are a pretty violet color. I still haven't figured out what they are though.

Here's a not very good picture that will at least give you an idea of what it looks like.

Hi everyone! I'd like to participate, but I am new at seed saving. I know I will have some daylily seeds. They won't come true from seeds, so it will be a lottery of sorts for whoever gets them. Is that okay? I'm off to learn more about seed saving, and I'll see what I come up with. Lots of things in the garden, echinacea, coreopsis, tomatoes, lettuce, jalepenos, habaneros, black-eyed susan, basil, dill, etc. I'll see what all I can test out before the deadline.

I hope you do join!

You know, you can also trade left-over commercial seeds, if you have a half-packet left that you won't be using next year.
