Caught these on my trail cam last night in my front yard. My Ft. Myers Hibiscus is slowly disappearing.

That's pretty rotten behavior. It's not as if they are lacking in groceries with all the rain we've had this year Smiling .

It doesn't matter, they love Hibiscus for some reason. I've seen it at times where there were 4 or 5 out in front at once.

I dunno. Plant some okra so they have an alternative? They love okra plants.

I imagine they'd still go after the Hibiscus even with Okra to munch on. It's a losing battle around here since most here in town thinks it's cute to feed the deer.

My tennis coach uses them as tennis targets. Nerf guns? Potato shooter? Just saying.

Something that is motion activated and can also track them and shoot them with something would be great.

I may have to get something like that. I was thinking of using a really bright motion activated light of some kind. The porch light doesn't scare them off. Also thought of a motion activated barking dog sound but then I figured the neighbors may not like it.

Don't even get me started about the deer. I'm old, but I'm still able to climb up on that soapbox. Sadly, it's a waste of time. My neighbor has a deer feeder that goes off twice a day, and a herd of twenty deer come running across the road. Four have been hit by cars by my front fence. No change from neighbor. He "loves his deer" - which is ironic considering he feeds them corn which is not healthy for them. Another lady in the area likes to show how the deer will eat carrots out of her hand - and she's given them names. My comment that they are NOT pets falls on deaf ears.......Same lady also puts out cat food for raccoons and bragged that she counted 23 in her backyard one night. Seriously. Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling
That's why my whole garden is turning into salvias. The deer eat almost everything else.

Looks like a nice young buck. I used to have water pans down in the front yard for the birds as well as seed but when the deer and feral cats drank more water than the birds I got rid of them. I wonder why they love the Hibiscus buds so much? They must taste really good.

One of the more interesting animals that got dumped out here in the country was someone's pet deer. He had reached the point of not being safe. He wanted to follow you everywhere, including into the house. You couldn't move anywhere outside without him being underfoot. For a few days I was captive in my own home. I only went outside when I couldn't see him out the windows. Finally, he just wasn't around anymore.

@chris1948 I think the deer like anything that's young and tender new growth. Or anything that I recently planted.

@needrain I wish some of the deer in my area would disappear! Bet you felt like you were the victim of a "stalker". Hilarious!

This is the same deer that I posted on May 24. Antlers are definitely growing.

I told big, white dog to get it. Her response was, "Seriously?" She was not interested.

Guess we've both reached the decision to "live and let live" with the white-tails.

This was posted yesterday on Nextdoor, a website for neighborhoods to keep in touch. I thought @chris1948 might enjoy it! We're experiencing lots of fawn sightings here. This guy took a humorous approach to an annual problem.

Man-Eating Deer on the Prowl 1Day Ago

Ok; maybe I'm exaggerating. A little. But it came up to our driveway where six loud humans were talking, circled us, then attacked my dog before I scared it away. Then it came back and I scared it away again. About fifteen minutes later I went out to walk my dog, and the deer was back and stalked us down the street till I scared it away again. It bolted down the street and I thought it was gone for good. I finished my walk and got back to my house, and — bwahaha — there it was again! WTH?? I scared it away, but now I'm convinced the deerpocalyse is upon us.

[Oh. I did see a little tiny baby much earlier in the day. We theorize the deer has it stashed somewhere nearby, or perhaps lost it and thinks my dog ate it.]

you can report this behavior as it is illegal in most states to feed them or to hand feed or turn them into pets. Especially since they are being lured across the road on purpose and being hit by cars.

wireless deer fence

http://wirelessdeerfence.com/

I have been zapped by this before and let me tell ya, it HURT. Just put this sucker a couple feet from your bush and the deer will lick it and WHAM! They come in packs of 3 for $60 and you just put regular batteries in them once a year and then buy these inexpensive scented baits that go on. (They come with the first order).

So far they are doing ok for me, I hope to double up later with some fencing though.

Aren't they cute ? Lovey dubby
I HATE them! Grumbling
I do feel bad they are hungry though Sad
