I keep checking if someone here posts some wise recommendations to these last pics of Ken's babies, which can be applied to mine too.... Smiling

Here are my babies, which came from the same batch of seeds as Ken's, but mine are now ca 14 months old. The leaves looked somewhat crummy from their semi- dormancy this Winter, so I trimmed them a bit when I lined them up to take some photos last Sunday. None of mine is at tall as Ken's Green Giant.

Ursula (and this may simply be because my eyesight is not the greatest), I don't see branching in your plants like I'm seeing with mine. Perhaps it is because mine get more light here than there in NJ. Maybe that's why I am seeing more top-growth too, especially with the three tallest plants. I don't know though. Perhaps KD and Rick will know why there is a difference. Otherwise, though you have perhaps twice the number of adenium than I, our plants do look like brothers and sisters.

Yes, you are correct, there is no branching at all. Good eye!
I actually had pinched the tops off last Fall on a couple of plants without any effect!

I was told (by someone?) not to pinch, so that's about the only thing I haven't tried. Whistling Nothing else I have done, tap-root cuttings and elevation, has accomplished a thing as far as I know.

It is interesting to read your updates. I just realized that all your plants are young from seed. I thought you guys had been at this awhile and had older plants. I have been waiting to see blooms. It would be hard for me to watch baby plant only. My plants are grafted or clones. So I watch them a lot. I will try to grow form seed soom. I have been looking at ko seeds but wow the price has gone up. The ones I am looking at I wish I could get a better idea of the whole flower. It looks like it has a much longer throat.
Oh well keep us update on your tree's. I now live to watch other grow.

I do look forward to seeing my plants bloom. That first bloom will be, well, the first addeium bloom ever for me. I am strictly a newbie when it comes to addenium. They are fun to watch for sure. Hurray!

Ursula,
There is not alot of branching (or ramification) on the seedlings, but what I find interesting with them. There is such a nice caudex on them, wide and bulbous. The majority very similar in this trait.
That is quite nice.

@Ursula
Last December I purchased and planted "Adenium somalense blue boy desert rose bonsai caudex pachycaul seeds." They are nearly 6 months old now and look very much like your seedlings, but yours look healthier and nicer. Angel

These are the flowers they are supposed to produce. Crossing Fingers!

Do the flowers of your seedlings' mother plant look anything like these? I know you posted a picture of the flowers sometime ago, but I don't know where to look for it.

Which reminds me...I need to take pictures of my seedlings to update my chronicle thread. Whistling

Good growing Ken and Ursula. Thumbs up It's been a while since I grew any DRs from seeds. My last batch was accidentally overturned, and I didn't find out until days later. Too late to save the newly germinated seedlings. Thumbs down Just seeing your success reminded me that I need to find some seeds and get started growing some more. I grow them and give them away, mainly to keep people from begging for my larger plants. Whistling

Thanks for posting pictures of your growing adeniums. It really gets me excited to imagine mine when they get older. Big Grin My little babes are 3.5 months along now and need to be repotted. I did pinch a few and two have began to branch. Do the smallest ones always stay smaller? Should I cull these smaller ones and just repot the fat and tall ones? Or do the little guys sometimes just take a little longer? They really have been one of the most fun seedlings to watch grow. I have them in full sun all day and they get watered every morning. @drdawg check out the first picture to the left. It is twice as tall as my other ones, kind of like what your green giant is doing.

Oh, and thank you again @Ursula for the seeds. It has been very rewarding. So rewarding in fact that I have around 80 of them and I have no idea what to do with all of them. I thought it would be like most other seeds and I would have some casualties, but no! They are all happy and growing. Starting to get a bit crowded. I am hoping the roots are not all tangled yet. I have not dug around yet to find out.

You did an amazing job on germinating all those seeds, Audrey. Hurray!

I can only tell you what I have seen over the last (almost) year of growing mine from seed. I have had two of the smallish ones catching up with the "Green Giant". Once I re-potted (up-potted) this spring, all have begun to grow faster though. That's probably why I have two do the "catch-up". I kept the Green Giant in the same small pot since it was doing so well. I finally up-potted him a week ago so I would expect him to gain some growth more quickly.

I did not pinch back any of mine. Some have branched but most have not. I am starting to see some (lower) branching here and there, on the bottom half of the swollen trunk. At least I am assuming this is going to be branching. Everything new with these plants is exactly that..........new.

Hmmmm...... good to know Ken. Maybe I should just hang on to all of the little guys and try and sell them this fall. I am new to adeniums also. I started the seeds and my husband brought me home a mature blooming white one and then I found a mature red blooming one the same week. I am really hoping to see some blooms on some of the babies before winter. With only five more months to go until bringing everything in for the winter, it does not look like that will be happening.

Whistling These darn forums. I was happily unaware of how cool adeniums are 4 months ago and now I have over 80 of them. Hilarious!

Of course, even after a year, I have not seen any budding, much less flowers. I am hopeful. Since I mainly grow ordhids, hundreds of them, I have learned to be patient. Thumbs up

Audrey, you are very welcome! Your babies are really cute too!
80? That is a lot of babies!! Thumbs up And it looks like you have some natural branching going on!

Once I see blooms or a special shape or anything that will want me to keep them, I will make my selection. I had a fellow at a local plant store telling me he would be very interested in these plants. We trade every so often "neat stuff", the fellow is a true hobbyist. Or give some to friends.
