Is there a mechanism for reporting errors in the database? For example, entries were recently created, and pictures posted, for two Tall Bearded Irises: "Agean Wind" and "Magerillin". There are no registered iris by either name. The new entries appear to be misspelled versions of 'Aegean Wind' and 'Magharelin', respectively, which are already in the database.

I would think you'd want to notify the moderator for Irises in that particular instance. Maybe Dave needs to provide an easily accessible link to the moderators of the various areas?

You can propose the images be moved to the correct entries, and tree mail the moderators to ask the duplicate plants themselves be deleted.

I don't see any way to propose the names be changed. Is there a this plant is mispelled box?

I found it. I asked them to be corrected by moving and to deleate the mispelled ones.

Do any proposals for changes go directly to the individual moderators? And how would we know which moderators go with which plants? Am I missing something obvious here?

These are all excellent questions and I still have much work to do to smoothen out the entire process.

In particular, fixing mis-spelled names is a big priority for me. Adding a new plant and moving the image over does work, but it's not the right solution. The better solution is to be able to propose changes to the genus, species and cultivar, etc. That's coming in time.

Kent, I already picked up on Aegean Wind and fixed it. I think. Please just bring any errors in irises to Dee's or my attention. I think we can fix them. Everything is going so quickly there's bound to be some errors.

I was looking in the W's genus listing, found this. A catchall genus? I couldn't resist and added the second common name.

Well, someone certainly has a sense of humor. I deleted the error.

The genus entry was 'Whatever'.

I wonder if that was one of the entries made while creating a new database? And it never was deleted?

Most likely an entry from a Cubits database, maybe a test one.

Yep, that's what I was thinking. I did some of those entries for different databases until they knew what it was they wanted in those fields. I thought they would have been deleted before making entries to the completed datase.

It was funny! I did add another common name to it too right before I posted it here, 'Whenever'. I bet it would eventually have been discovered by others and added to it, could have been a real hoot.
