Taqiyyah ...

I haven't gotten all of my mulching and weeding for this year done yet either. Of course, I have the excuse that I can't just go out and buy mulch, but have to go out and gather my leaves and bring them home and shred them. I've been putting off that chore.

My rose mentor made me do a LOT of homework when he was teaching me about roses. I'll start a new thread with an excerpt from Jack Harkness's book Roses about the botany of how a rose plant produces fragrance since this a question that seems to come up quite often on this Forum. I think it will allow site users to do a search.

I might as well take the time. I am stuck inside by the heat ... Hilarious!

Here you go:

I'd rather weed than dust ... the weeds stay gone longer.

I was so far behind here, 2 threads ago since I had time to check in. Slammed with work (making a living stuf) for the past 2 months.

2 pics. One is the rose garden by the guest house. Queen Elizabeth in the front. Seems I have 3 or 4 or her, spread around in other places.

In the last thread yall talked about favorite colors in the garden. I favor red and purple. In this one, the red on the back right and back left are my red drift, all one plant. All the drifts do well here, but that red loves the area it's in I guess, because it is really drifting. There's a rose of sharon in the center back, a lavender. The purples are a low growing but spreading thumbergia.

Beautiful pics, Molly. What kind of thunbergia is it?

The flower on this one looks like the blue sky vine. Thought it might be when I bought it but it doesn't climb. So last spring, I bought a clock vine and planted it at the base of that tinder pine in hopes it would climb it and continue those flowers up higher. We're still (me and the plant) working on getting up the tree. (Sorry, you can't see the tinder pine in the picture)

Nice, Molly! I like red and purple together too. For some reason I'd neglected to acquire many reds till this year and I'm really glad I did- it seems Japanese beetles don't care for red roses. They haven't touched Out of Rosenheim (my favorite new red!), Red Riding Hood, Red Fairy, Scarlet Meidelland, or Desmond Tutu.
