Hi Tom. Took a short break, from fixin dinner.. I guess you may consider me a newer member, here at NGA, although I've been on other garden websites, over the many years, I've been gardening. Some member's names are actually familiar, to me. & I'm talking about , from a very lonnng time ago ! I was just curious, why such an old Post, would suddenly appear ? haha You got me !
Joined in December of just last year & after so many improvements have been made, with bearded Iris, by so many of those "hybridizers", recently, I just couldn't "hep" it ! Then, wanted seeds, to start some too & got carried away , by that & next thing I knew, was getting started , all over again,...Since I'd started growing Iris, in the 1980's, in "mixed' borders", but enjoy tall bearded & like to start species from seeds & next, will be rhizomes arriving this summer,, for attempting future crosses of my own.
Already looking forward, to flowers by next spring, if I manage to pull it off, just right. Enjoy everyone's individual personality on forum & think it's been grrreat fun, sharing an interest in them, with long time members, too.
Lovin' it here next to the Chesapeake Bay, on a peninsula, of southernmost end of it, which tends to usually make the climate, fairly mild, year 'round. This City, is so old, some areas were colonized, over 400 years ago. I wonder if any had brought any Iris, along with them, as the voyage may have lasted up to four months ! That's what the 'Fleur de Lis' symbol is about , as old stylized Iris, isn't it ?
