Gigi, i cant let mine get to 9 feet. NO place to put it in the winter.
I guess i have some time to worry about that.

Ken you were right on about the flower color. Didnt expect the yellow though.

Well it finally bloomed. Hurray!
Started rooting process on 5/25. (i'm quite proud of myself)
Can anyone tell me what kind this might be? I purchased it as a 'Mystery'.
It smells a bit like an Easter lilly

That's a nice flower, Tim. You'll never know what it is though. There are simply too many variables involved when photographing flowers. By the way, the majority of white and pink plumeria flowers will have some yellow/orange in the center.

It can be a lot of things, and I do agree with Ken that you will see a lot of strange/seemingly worrisome things on inflo's at times, but this (to me) looks like it just got a little "protective". The inflo's and new leaves will push out sap quite readily if it has gotten a hard rain or heavy watering, if it has been "invaded" by ants or some sort of bug that was trying to nibble, or even if the wind was blowing extremely hard that day. I have even seen one of mine just start pushing out sap for seemingly no reason other than (the only thing I can figure) just trying to lubricate and protect itself from over-heating/sun exposure because I left it out in mid-day sun without properly acclimating the cutting.

Edited to add: The sap that it pushes out of baby leaves and inflo's seems to be thicker or more coagulated than the normal. I have never spoken with an expert about it, but perhaps it is a type of defense mechanism for protecting new growth/propagation.

Ibis, be sure to post those flowers. I may have the name for the #2, but your photos will confirm that.

James, Thanks for your comments of 'the stuff'.
As you can see from the post yesterday, everything turned out just fine.
I do notice at night and before it rains the newer leaves tend to 'stand up' and surround the budding flowers as sort
of a protection mechanism. Kinda of cool.

Ken, so if it dont know what it is, is that where i see people refer to theirs as 'No ID 'white or 'No id 'pink etc
Is that what it means?)
I just found another inflo starting on my White. I started that rooting on 3/25 under grow lights.
I'm 2 for 7 for flowers in my first attempt. Hurray!

I just put "NOID". I think that's what most people use, "NOID white", "NOID yellow", "NOID pink".

You are doing good with inflo., Tim.

So i had previously posted pics of a white flower with a tinge of pink, but now the newest flowers are all pink. How is that?
Does temp and moisture affect flower color?

We also got hit the other night with a few hours of temps in the upper 40's. If you magnify photo and look at some of the buds you can see some brown patches on them. A few of them have opened and the flowers have brown 'dead' edges to them. I'm wondering if that was from the temps or maybe something else...maybe low moisture?

Tim, when I was researching viruses associated with plumeria, one of the PhD plant geneticists at the U. of Hawaii (his speciality is plumeria) told me that the genes that control plumeria colors are very weak compared to most plants. Thus, almost anything can cause a color-shift. It is almost like growing from seed. You'll never know what color you will get. It seems to me that the reds are not in this group of color-variation though. Only my whites, yellows, pinks, and rainbows seem to go through color-shift.

Temperatures in the 40's certainly will cause that bud damage; I hope your buds will at least hang on and make flowers!

Your color variation is most likely due to the intensity of the sunlight.

Tim, I agree with Hetty. Sometimes even the early morning and afternoon colors could have some variation.

Ibis congratulations on that beautiful plumeria! Ken good job!

Ken, Hetty and Gigi..... Thank you. I didnt know the colors could change due to genes or even sun intensity.
Good to know.
The flowers now have brown spots. Certainly not as pretty as they were before. I hope the new buds are like the earlier flowers.
I think i will have to start bringing them inside at night soon. Didnt expect the 40's but Sept. is just around the corner and that means cooler night time temps. Sad Sighing!

whats the best way to keep the fallen or cut flowers? I want to give a couple to a family member but should i put in water or just leave 'as-is'? I heard they last awhile after they fall off but some of the fallen flowers just dont look to good.

Some flowers have a heavy texture and some a very light texture. Those that are heavy will last far longer than those that are thin and wispy. I try to put my stems into water. I cut out plastic mesh to fit over different bowls, and I just stick those stems through the mesh and into the water that fills the bowls. The mesh keeps the flowers from touching the water but allow the stems to stay in the water. I should file for a patent. Whistling
