Hurray!

Even though I joined earlier this year, I haven't had time to be on here very often.. hopefully that'll change. Where is the database & how do you get to it?

Click on 'plants' then browse by genus' then select 'H' for hosta. Scroll all the way down to Hostas and click it, they are at the top of page 14. When I registered in September it was on page 5, wow, has it grown!

I was going thru my photos, and [i'm only on A ] but was going to add Adrian's Glory, and it's not in the database, so i tried to enter it, and i'm getting an error that says,

Important: Don't add quotes around the names. The system will add those automatically when appropriate.

but there are not quotes.

how do i add new cultivars / plants to the database?

I was getting the same message and asked Dave, but I was doing something wrong. Dave asked, "Are you entering "Hosta" into the Genus field? That's where it belongs." Sure enough, I wasn't. Once I did that it worked perfectly.

Terese it's talking about the little ditos around the name. Line 'Adrian's Glory', just put Adrian's Glory. I really love that hosta and I would like to buy one in the spring. Where did you get yours? Lovey dubby

Keep Trying Terese! I know you will get it. Thumbs up Below is a copy and paste of some advise dave gave me, and I had no problem after that. Hope this helps. I tip my hat to you.

from dave

Could you resubmit the new plant proposal? You can entered in "Hudson Bay" as the common name, but the common name should read "Hosta" instead.

All together, the fields should be:

Common name: Hosta
Genus: Hosta
Species: (leave blank)
Cultivar: Hudson Bay
Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Mat.6:28-29

My Blue Angel is (I'm guessing) 8 years old. I planted in on a small mound of enriched soil with alfalfa meal. (Used for Horses). It has a growth hormone in it. It is better to get in as rabbit manure but go with what you have. Only worried about water the 1st. year planted.
