Could you resubmit the new plant proposal? You can entered in "Hudson Bay" as the common name, but the common name should read "Hosta" instead.

All together, the fields should be:

Common name: Hosta
Genus: Hosta
Species: (leave blank)
Cultivar: Hudson Bay

I eventually found another hosta that I had that was not in the DB... used the above and worked like a charm.

I'm still trying to organize all my images... I moved all my gardening pics off my computer onto a portable HD, now i just have to get all the ones off my laptop, do the same and delete the duplicate files. Then to get them organized, since i have 2 locations with plants, WI & IL, i keep them in different folders, so i know where to look for each plant/file. real PITA but once it's done, it will be easy to find and upload images into the DB.

Paul,
Thanks for the pictures. Very nice to look at during these during cold wet days. (which is better than snow).
I see you made one mistake just like I did. Most of your hosta look to be a few years old at most. I see different size mixed with dwarfs. Some of those dwarfs will get smothered out, as well as a lot of the perennials you got growing with them. But that will not be for a few more years.
My hosta 'Liberty' just refuses to grow for me. I guess everyone get a hosta that misbehaves for them. I had it for 5 years and looks like I just bought it yesterday. Maybe now has 3 stocks but never over 6 - 8 inches high. I don't fertilizer my hostas, never thought to do so. I do feed them compost tea at times. I give them all I could when I first plant them and most take off like weeds. You are right about them loving water.
Paul on your pictures. I use 'Paint' which came with 'Windows' and I post my picture in there first and I can reduce the size for pasting in here as well as print the names on the picture for all the plants inside. I also keep it for future record keeping. Like also date it. Helps when you view them years from now.

If I see an empty spot I can't rest until I've planted something in it. I often over plant but like my beds to look full and I can always move something later. My 'Liberties' are moderate growers, getting better each year. 2 have several moderate size divisions, the 3rd has 3 Larger divisions. Compost tea is great. Try adding a little Miracle-grow.

I like it full too and since they grow so slow I figure you can move or divide it later if it gets too big. Hostas like a lot of water and that flushes the nutrients out of the ground. Use a hose attachment to add Mir Grow, you have to water anyway, just screw it to your hose and you can feed while you water. Once a month is better than nothing, and you can use your tea the rest of the time.

The way I make compost tea, I can add the MG right thru the mix. I use a 32 gallon garbage can that has holes in the bottom and use the lid under it to catch the water draining out of it. The can is filled with all my grass clippings and weeds, leaves or what ever I find. No dog carp is ever used. I pour a gallon of water at the top and get almost 3/4 back. I have to cover the top if it rains so I don't lose any. Works great and during the summer that can can cook.

I have a compost tumbler with a 'base' that collects the tea... problem is, my composer is in IL and most of my hostas are in WI.
