I really don't know how you all can ID a plumeria. There are literally 1,000's of named plumeria. It is so hard to make a match. Then with each new seedling someone comes along and names another? And another? And another? Take the list of plumeria for sale at the local NPA Sale this Saturday. All those names, none match up to the Plumeria of the Day that Hetty posts. Do they all have to be registered or...just named? Can they sell them by name if not registered? The ones you want are often really hard to find.

I believe (have not really dug into this) that if you look at the list and see the ones that are in BOLD - I think these are the ones that are registered

[pulling up soapbox]
I kind of have a issue with the whole registered non registered also. To me, just plain little ole me - since this sale is being put on by "The Plumeria Society of America, Inc." then all registered plumerias at the sale should have a tag that states name and number and everything else - Tagged NOID

There is a registration process available with the PSA. You can also submit a name (I think the PSA asks for a primary and a secondary choice) and if accepted, that name will be reserved for you for (5 yrs. - I think). Thus you can actually name a new seedling but not have it registered. Hetty knows all about the naming and registration process.

I said NPA for "National" I stand corrected. PSA. The World of Acronym gets away from me most of the time!

The PSA (probably one of their directors) does seem to respond to my questions but overall, their site is lacking with useful and up-to-date information. You might have to be a member to ask a question though.

2014?! Even PSA can't keep up with all the names. 5 years is not a long time. That is a full time job to add the newly registered names and delete the old ones. I guess they do it by computer now?

Five years was simply a guess. Last year I actually got the paperwork to register a name with a seedling, but never did it. I still have that paperwork and need to get off my bu** and do it. I actually now have several that I have named but not registered those names.
