As I was searching through my extensive private library (at last count, there are over 10,000 books, reports, etc) I located a real treasure trove of sempervivum related material.
I think that of all the goodies located, were the physical copies of many editions of the publications from England of The Sempervivum Society. Many of these were sent to me by the late David Ford.
David was one of the "giants" in the world of sempervivum.
I did a write-up about David in one of the issues of SempWorld. I will convert the article to a small .pdf and post it within the next couple days.
==== NEW TOPIC ===
Some of the great posts that have been added to my original quest to find "Michell's Gold", have asked many questions related to my collection, web sites, etc.
A short bio about me:
Real name: Glen "Gramps" Mentgen
A very senior citizen (now into my 8th decade), widowed (wife died about 6 years ago); have three children, all of which are greatly successful in their lives and all of which I am *very* proud.
My sedum/semp collection isn't in the greatest condition due to a couple events: the collapse of the roof on the shade house last winter and the deer munching on them. But the main cause of the deterioration is probably the fact that I "died" back in 1999 (yes I died and the doctors brought me back) and for several years, I did not have the strength to maintain the collection as it deserved. Even today, I can't work on the collection for more than a couple hours at a time.
Education/career: I have no formal training in botany, horticulture... all self taught. My degree is Aerospace Engineer (rocket scientist), having worked on many of the major space projects. The one that I'm most proud of is my work on the Mars Viking project in the 1975-76 time frame.
Horticultural interests: Have had dirt under my finger nails for as long as I can remember. It turned into a "business" when my farther-in-law (who just recently passed at the age of 101) and I formed B&G Greenhouse, which specialized in succulents. This when I became interested in sedums, semps, etc.
Other activities: have written a couple of books (sole author and co-author with my daughter Lynn). I hesitate even mentioned this fact because I don't want this to be construed as a "commercial".
Website that I have and/or have an association with: (1) Farmboys.com: site that I sell my "Money Does Grow On Trees" ebook; (2) Cinderblockgardens.com which sells an ebook that Lynn and I co-authored.
(3) TheLivingFarm.org site which is Lynn's main site related to her CSA (community supported agriculture) operation (I am the "web master"); and there are others, but none that are horticultural related.
Location: As stated in my profile, I live high up in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado (see picture of Mt Lamborn that is in my backyard). I moved to this location back in 1996 to be closer to Lynn. I purchased two acres of land which as nothing but weeds... house with weeds. Since then I have propagated and planted my own private forest of some 1600+ trees/shrubs, etc. The neighbors ask me why so many trees... so I tell them that I plan to start a nudist colony... they never ask again.
Other loves: my dogs. I have had many types of dogs over the years: cockapoo, doberman, great danes, visulas, whippet, and border collies. I recently lost my favorite border collie, Jobie ... she was just 2 months short of being 20 years old. This has left a huge hole in my heart. Fortunately, I had acquired another BC, Tess, a few years earlier as a potential replacement for Jobie. Tess and I are still making the adjustment to the loss of Jobie.
