I can't even handle what I have on my little shelves. And some are getting tall enough that they're hitting the lights and scorching leaves. I'm either going to have to cut some of the taller ones back or move them to just window light.

I'd like to start some more seeds, but no shelf space left. Those seeds will have to be "wintersown" outside in spring.

Not right now Ted, sorry. I might have some in a few weeks but I'm not sure yet.

I started around 30 cuttings in fall and have over wintered those on my small lighted shelves. I started one more tray of cuttings a couple of weeks ago. My friend is coming over for cuttings today. She's not exactly a gardener but has done better than average with coleus in pots in the past couple of years. Today I'm going to show her how to take cuttings, plant them, etc.

I'm out of space under lights but still need to start some small cells of trailers for hanging baskets, and would like more plants for my garden, too. Our weather has been warm this winter (though it's 30° now and snowed overnight). I'm hoping that I can soon start to harden off my plants and move some to my porch, making more space on my shelves for starting new cuttings.

The coleus I tried to overwinter got so many mealies that I kicked them outside. I was hoping birds would pick the bugs off and I could bring them back in all nice and healthy.. Rolling on the floor laughing
The mealies spread to my hibiscus, succulents and brugs, but thankfully they didn't get to my african violets. Now that would have made me mad! Grumbling

Thanks!! The greenhouse is heated to about 65. These are cuttings taken in the fall from my container plants. Just rooted in water on the kitchen counter. Then into 4 inch pots in the greenhouse. I have a fan in there as well, I think that keeps the bugs from taking up residence on the plants

Thanks,
Last year I had some very nice plants, lost them by putting out to early for the cool spring we had. I'm waiting until June to put these guys out. Again, caring for them all winter then poof a few cold nights in the spring then they are gone. Grumbling

Much warmer temps are to arrive this week. Days are supposed to be in the 60s and low 70s with nights at or near 50°. I should be able to start to harden off my coleus! As long as it's not too windy I'll start today. I'd be really mad if they got blown away after I nurtured them all winter.

Jo Ann, we didn't have much bitter weather this winter. A few days here and there but overall much warmer than average. And almost no snow- just a few dustings. Plenty of rain though.

I don't have as many coleus this year. But now they're big enough that the florescent lights overhead don't really light through to the base of the plant, only the top. A little true sunshine would be a good thing.

I still need to start a few small cuttings of trailers for my baskets, too. If I could get rid of one tray of bigger plants, I'd have space on my shelves to do it.

Karen
