Just thought we are past "Signs of Spring" so starting a new thread
to post our Summer gardening experiences.
I am having a terrible time with tomatoes this year ,
because not only has it been warm, but it has been very windy.
I have replaced several because they just get blown to pieces.
Now I have a few stronger ones which are producing flower clusters.

I am really pleased with my back yard this year. I mostly only had delphiniums along this fence until last summer when I decided to widened it and add stuff so I could get more color more often throughout the Spring/Summer/Fall days. Most pleased with the results!

Thanks! Caroline, the only peony that I bought and know the name of is the Sorbet, the one next to the red one. The others were given to me as roots, without tags.

My new square foot Haden has been doing fenominal! Healthy tomatoes and peppers. We have had perfect growing weather. Yes some hot days in the mid 90s, but plenty of rain too.
Last Saturday we had rain and 60mph winds. Things were a bit ragged, but luckily everything was staked that needed to be. The corn was laying over but it has since straightened up.

We have been enjoying peas for about three weeks. The purple ones are called Sugar magnolia. Wild flower mix has been thriving.

The lupins finally opened! Don't know why they took so long. I found a lot of things were early this year, but not the lupins. I thought I lost them this spring when everything else seemed to be coming up great, but no sign of them. Was so glad to finally see them!

Have to open the picture to see them, it seems:

We have had dry hot weather so unusual for us. In the 70-90 with clear skies and no rain to speak of. It would be perfect gardening weather in the early morning but a crushed vertebrae has taken much of the joy out of gardening. So frustrating. My two grandsons came over and did some 'heavy lifting' for which I will be forever grateful. I feed them so they love it. Rolling on the floor laughing They dug up a bed that grass had invaded and sifted the soil to put it back amended with compost, pea gravel, manure. I changed out the plants going back in a little for some variety. My delphs have always been so good along the fence but this year they are just not doing well. I have bought a few new plants that do well in our botanical garden although they have a woodland look so more shade and the soil is cooler.

Vegies are thriving though. And I can putter around doing things if I take it easy.

Oh how pretty. Lovely. We had a couple from Toronto visit our botanical garden yesterday. So nice to talk with them. Their weather is warmer I think that what you all seem to have here on the forum.

Thanks, Sandy. I can't wait for the yellow and pink lilies to open, and the red bee balm. They are all very close.

And this year----I have had several lilies attacked by the dreaded lily beetle.
I am drenching the lilies in that bed with talcum baby powder in hopes that they do not move to other parts of the yard.

Oh, that's a bummer, Caroline! Is this the first time you've had them? I don't believe they're found in my area... yet Blinking

Yes, this is the first attack of the lily beetle in my garden.
I shall watch them carefully, but might have to destroy the lily bed.
We yanked all the lilies in my daughter's yard as they were really bad there.
Now she has been lily free for about 3 or 4 years so she might try again.
I hope I can eradicate them here now.
My neighbours have all had them so?

How do you like those Sugar Magnolia Peas? I have only recently heard of them and have seeds now which I will be planting for a Fall crop.

@Newyorkrita they are not as sweet as sugar snaps when big. They are best eaten smaller. It may be me though. Let me know what you think!

How are all your veggies and especially tomatoes?
