They grow in my garden as volunteer plants from the previous years volunteer plants from the previous years volunteer,,,,

Last year, by the grace of God, they grew on the berm around the norther garden. I was able to pull them so that the remaining ones were evenly spaced around the garden.
One person said she liked the way I planted my sunflowers and I told her I had nothing to do with the planting but did with the removing.

I have had some volunteer giant ones but they almost always snap off. If I put a rod in the ground to support them they snap off above the rod.

We use grass clippings to mulch the veggie garden, some of which come from mowing around the bird feeders -- so naturally I get a lot of sunflowers coming up from that; I also remove some of the plants so the ones that are left aren't in my way -- that often means they end up at the ends of the rows of vegetables and look more or less like they were planted "on purpose." Not many seeds fall out of them, though -- the birds pretty much clean them out!

Tomato season in full swing here but while waiting for the big ones those cherry and grape type tomatoes started cranking out the fruit early. Honestly don't know how anyone can do without cherry tomatoes. Especially those nice sweet ones like Sungold.

I have other varieties but always have Sungold. This year 6 plants so really have been enjoying the candy sweet taste. Love them!!

This is not the best ever year for tomatoes here, that was last season. The tomatoes also started up getting ripe late this year. But still I can't too much complain as I pick at least ever other day, many times each day and get a lovely harvest each time to share with friends and neighbors.

My cucumbers are done already this year. The vines already died of diseases.

My cucumbers, too, Rita. Cucumbers always get blight. I need to find a blight resistant variety.
Anybody have a suggestion?

They always get sick and die but some years the vines last longer than others. This year not lasting too long as they are plenty done!!

I am looking for Marketmore 96 seed. Supposed to be resistant to lots of cucumber diseases.

Yikes -- blight on cucumbers = one more thing to worry about? All mine have ever had problems with is powdery mildew way late in the growing season.

This year many of the vines literally got sucked sick as those cucumber beetles made them wilt. If that hadn't done it the leaves were a mess of some sort of brown spots. Yup, they were it worse than usual with the cucumber diseases.

And my Cantaloupes got wilt also. Crying

Bummer! Sad

I've noticed some brown spots on my cuke leaves too... I wonder if it's the same thing?

Well, they always eventually get the brown spots. Most years takes more time before the leaves get really sick and the vines die off. This year really early. Maybe the kinds I am growing this year just not much disease resistant?

The vines didn't even get a chance to get mildew which they come down with in September as they didn't make it to September.

That's it, never know exactly why. But I am looking for seed of at least one much more disease resistant variety for next year.
