I seem to have a problem with remembering my more or less self-inflicted disasters; I must be getting a little smarter, though, because I now keep a running list of "thoughts for" the next year, including things that worked well and things that did not. (This works as long as I remember to read through the "thoughts" before I actually buy seeds and plant next year's garden... Whistling )

Already getting overloaded with cucumbers here and picking and freezing lots of raspberries. Tomatoes are just starting to ripen, I need to start picking peppers, and the garlic will be dug out in about a week and replaced with some cabbage and broccoli plants. Lots of flowers on my bean plants, the snow peas are done and I need to pull the vines out and plant more seeds (which will hopefully still have time to produce some pods). My potato plants look the best they have for several years, probably because I actually spaced them out better; I'm anxious to start digging them but no sign of the plants starting to die yet so it will be a while (although I'll start digging some of the Red Golds when I need some to cook). Happy we haven't had the brutal heat here this summer!

Cool & fresh this morning after the rain blew through last night. Just 4/10", not the gully-washer predicted. High today 74 & breezy. Ahhhhh.
We've had alot of rain in July. I can't stroll through the annual garden, soil too wet, I'd sink. But, I did a parmeter inspection and all looks good.

Well drillers were here, drilled
127' down and found good water. Will come back Monday to finish up our new well.
But, just wondering - could they get any CLOSER to my perennial beds?

We've had frequent rain during July, but apparently not as much as it seemed like we were getting (maybe I should put a rain gauge out?) because I was doing some weeding today and the soil seemed rather dry, plus DH mowed part of the yard and commented that things were dry despite the rain we've had. I kind of hate to put the sprinkler out but this is NOT the time of year to let things dry up!

I know what you mean, Sandy.
I used to garden with my Mom in the Cadillac MI area. Soil was mostly sand. Dried out quickly. We ammended with everything we could find to retain the moisture.
