Oh, no, Ursula! Do you mean the power is out but you are on a generator?

Yup, the generator is happily humming along!!
Somehow I have a feeling it will take again some time for power to be restored. We are parallel to the mainstreet and there are a lot of branches down.... For some reason lately we are always affected.
My son lives at the other end of town, he almost never loses power. There was a good reason I pushed for that generator a couple of years ago.

That was a smart move, for sure, Ursula! Especially with those orchids. . We got one when we moved here. Glad Kathy has one now, too. Hurray!

Hi guys. It is a major storm. Gotta go out and save my magnolia! The trees still have leaves! I brought the waterlilies in this AM (hardy ones). My garden is not cut down, the spiranthes is still in bloom and I haven't raked leaves!!

I guess I better start saving for a generator of my own and a mess of
heavy duty extension cords to go between the greenhouse, the fridge
in the garage and the generator somewhere in between!
I hope this early storm is more bark than bite as far as your gardens go ladies!
fingers crossed...

The generator ran nicely through the night and plant and fish are fine. Without it, we would have a disaster on our hands this morning. The power is still out.
I honestly find it amazing that years ago power outages never lasted more than hour, and I really don't ever remember problems like that in Winter. Nowadays we lose power on a sneeze and it is out for days. Are these connections are so fragile that one branch snaps the whole thing....Perhaps it would be nice if we quit sliding into third world country behavior and moved those power lines below ground.

Really!! I agree. I also think there are too many of us and our usage (this is a prime example) is outrageous compared to the past. Also grid configurations don't help. BTW, I have electricity but my son and grandboys 15 minutes away froze all night and no one is saying how long it will be out. NYTimes says, "2.3 million customers from Pennsylvania reaching up into New England found themselves without electricity." http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10...

I saw 2.5 million in CT alone!
We had a freeze overnight.

I feel for you guys. Toasty here, no problem. I even had to turn on the AC this afternoon for a bit. We spent the the last three days down in Bredenton, FL. It is about an hour south of here and my in-laws live there. My mother-in-law had shoulder surgery and we went to help out. Neither of them speak English and they had Spanish soaps on all day long. I thought I would go crazy. They're even worse when you understand the language. I'm trying to get caught up now.

Rolling on the floor laughing Well we are toasty too. My son and grandkids are over since they have no heat. Lots of melting today. Feels like Xmas. No schools are open tomorrow.

Good news, Ursula. I looked into a whole-house generator for here but I couldn't justify the cost. If power went out for a few days, about all I would lose is frozed food and twenty grand will replace a lot of food.
