Congrats Ursula!
Jim, my generator cost about 3 grand and covers most lights, the furnace, the water pump, the freezer, the fridge, the water heater. Both orchid rooms are on it. I got to pick from different sizes that have various capacities. It's a Generac propane generator and it comes on automatically and is insulated, therefore quite quiet compared to older models. http://www.generac.com/Residen...

Today has been interesting. My son and grandkids were here overnight and just got electricity and went home. A web designer friend came over to do some work and another friend is coming to spend the night. At our house, folks are checking email, charging cell phones, taking showers, etc. We have become a resource!

Ursula, the one I looked at covered the AC as well. At least here I don't have to worry about the cold so perhaps it is not worth it. I'm waiting for the doorbell to ring at any second. I know the little goblins are out there.

Janice, beautiful pics. You're garden is still going strong.

My cassia is in bloom in the yellow garden. It is really getting big.

Finally, a Bromeliad from the shade garden.

Ohh, I love the Cassia bloom too. What an interesting flower.

Regarding the generator - ours is wired into the electrical fuse box ( done by a certified electrician), but we start the generator and then throw the switches ourselves, not quite as fancy as Kathy's, but otherwise similar. We didn't wire the kitchen stove into that system, but all the other necessary stuff is. Living here in NJ, I was very grateful we didn't have to sit in the dark, had heat, TV, Internet etc. For sure, the fish appreciated it and so did the plants.
