Wow !! Something new !!!! Now what?? How long until they ripen and how do I go about collecting seeds?? Do Adenium form a caudex and are they true to the parent plant from seed?? I'm sorry for so many questions...

I can answer your last question, Jeff. No, the plants will never be true to their pod-parent, and as I understand it, they won't be even if the flowers were self-pollinated.

It takes about 75 days for seed pods to ripen. On/about the 65th day it is advisable to bind the seed pods to prevent them from opening because the tufts on the seeds will cause them to drift away with any breezes. Harvest the seeds when the pods are beginning to split and remove the tufts at both ends of each seed. They may be planted immediately or placed in a Ziploc baggie and stored in the refrigerator for several months.

As far as being true to parent, please view this thread: http://garden.org/thread/view_post/1020428/

Jeff, I have never had a bloom yet (all mine are exactly 1 yr. old), so know nothing about the seed-pods. I can tell you that every one of my 18 obesum, grown from seed, have fat caudices.

You're welcome, Jeff. Smiling I don't know what the average number of seeds are per pair of pods. The pair that ripened recently for me contained 60 seeds total.

I store my seeds in my refrigerator at the middle setting. Really don't know the exact temperature at this setting.

No, not at all...unlike certain other kinds of plants, adenium seeds do not require a cold period of time to be able to germinate.

In a warm climate atmosphere, the seeds will deteriorate within a few weeks. Cold storage will help keep the seeds fresh and maintain viability for a long time.

Ok, but I suppose it should not freeze ?
I will move soon on scout camp for 2 weeks then I'd like to preserve seeds as much as possible during these period.

Is someone watching your trees while you away? Or have you moved them to semi shade. I don't know how hot it is getting there. But in my heat I've been watering every other day. My soil is a dry mix, and my trees have buds.
I use to love camp

@Schisma
No, don't freeze the seeds. If you have a cool cellar where you keep wine, cheese and vegi's, they should be okay there too.

A camping trip! Hurray! Will you be in the forest? Watch out for bears and bobcats! Rolling on the floor laughing (Reference another thread where you discussed these animals.)

My mother is coming to my home to watch my trees when I am on holiday and I revert the same when they are.
My Adenium are at my office, I don't know if I can ask a colleg to give them water one time during my 2 weeks holidays.
Or maybe I can move them to my flat but they will lose light...

Yes, I will camp in the forest for 2 weeks, we will build a village hung in the forest ! :)
Normally, problem about Bears and bobcats ! Big Grin
There's some bobcats in my region but during holidays, we will be in the south of France,
I know there's some bears in south of France but not in that region. Hurray!
