*Blush* Thanks Gleni. It was all the apparent contradictions with daylily seed behaviour that got me experimenting and reading the few studies that have been done. Not to mention that right now I'm doing a lot of puppy watching so sitting here with my iPad ready to poke my nose in with my two cents worth Cdn. Hilarious! As long as I don't take my eyes off said puppy for too long that is Whistling

@beckygardener You have me hooked on hydrogen peroxide! Have you done anything in the garden with it? I just came home after staying with one of my daughters and quite a few daylilies in pots looked like they were going to collapse. Each one looked like it had a little something different, but the crowns / roots on some were going. I took a cup of hydrogen peroxide to 2 qts water. And started pouring it over them to help the crowns. What they all had in common pill bugs and earwigs infestation. This is not the first time, they were eating the crowns to make it rot. Here we do not get iris borers but pill bugs will eat an iris rhizome. Ants, earwigs and pill bugs literally hundreds came out as I poured the mixture over and over the daylilies. It was like acid rain to them!!!! I cleaned up the daylilies and will have to wait and see. I think I am going to start regularly spraying all my daylilies and roses. I would be curious too if it will help with leaf miners. Please tell me all you know!
Many blessings for a joyful and safe week!

Sharon - This is a link I always refer others too. Using 3% directly on a rotting plant has often saved it (in my garden). I love H2O2!!!

I did it late, at dusk (sunset) and let it stay on the plant's roots (poured around the ground) and then the next morning I watered it to dilute it from the heat of the sun. I've had to do that to clematis, brugmansia, and daylilies. All plants were saved. One was so bad (the clematis), that I really didn't think I would be able to save it. I was amazed that it worked even on a plant that had most of it's roots rotted. I swear by hydrogen peroxide!

Four O'Clocks produce large tubers. It could be that something is damaging the tubers. Or you could have rot if over-watering. If the tuber isn't being eaten or damaged by a critter and seems more like rot, I'd definitely try the H2O2 treatment. Good luck!

they are young, I planted them in april from seeds. I guess it's rot, but I can't find anything on four o' clock disease.
If they should die not a problem, I'll plant more seeds next year!
