@RickM. Did I mention that I thoroughly enjoy your posts as they are encouraging, well thought out and wreak with sweet common sense?

Hoping you will post more and hoping to see more of your gardens. 😊

Hang on a sec! Wasn't this clear ground a few days ago? And yes, you are good. This is what gardening is all about.

Well this particular spot was not clear is was full of day lilies that were to shaded to bloom. Yesterday I moved the day Lillies up on the sunny hill and put my Hosta here next to the House where I can care for them properly.

Hosta House is a Hosta lovers dream. To clarify things a little Burton has raised beds full of organic matter/ His Hostas are double potted. When you choose a plants it is growing with a good established root system. The potted hosta is planted in a second pot which remains in the bed. He uses a wood based planing mix . I prefer de-potting and planing directly in a well prepared bed. I haven'd tried planting in the pot but can see where it might have its advantages, Some one meentioned that I am not well. In March I broke a hip which has limited my gardening but my health is fine,. I need to take more pictures to share......here are some previous ones.

Paul... Visiting your yard is a must for me.

It's just so beautiful. I'm so happy happy happy with Burton.

He was so sweet. When I picked out a plant his eyes would light up and he would say... "I've got another one of that variety of the same size that is just a little bit prettier."

He wanted to make sure I had the best looking one. He didn't have to do that but he did. (I would have never known)

That tells me he is an honest man.

He was also telling me how beautiful your Hosta in your yard was. 🌺🌺

Btw...

I had hip repair surgery too last year when I tore my labrum cartilage after giving birth.

I know how challenging recovery can be.

First year - sleeps.
Second year - creeps.
Third year - leaps!

Don't expect much growth in the first two years.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if it was that same way for potted plants that were already 2 years old.

My liberty did really well last year, until the deer found them. This year, they didn't do well at all.

My Diana Remembered were in the same spot for 5+ years and barely grew at all. So, this year they came out and went into pots until I figure out where to put them. (We decided to leave the area where they were just mulch for now.)

What caused your Liberty to not do well?

Was it deer?

I'm pretty sure it was the deer. They chewed the plants down almost to the crown. Oddly, I have both Sagae and Kross Regal planted in the same spot and they were kind of left alone. I guess the Liberty had a better flavor!

I've been washing and tasting my Hosta. The light colored ones do taste better and the one that tasted the best to me was
'Great Expectations'.

It left my mouth watering for more of it dipped in balsamic vinegar.

Hey Betsy, it sounds like you need to put together a book called The Salad Lover's Guide to Edible Hosta . Are the flowers edible? Imagine a nice dinner plate with a raceme of hosta flowers as a garnish. Sure beats the rosemary or parsley spring.

Yes - flowers are edible and they don't all taste the same. Sticking tongue out

Then I better start giving those Hosta blooms the taste test. πŸ˜€

I think that in the next few years I will learn exactly what time of year the Hosta will start to die back and just start clipping the leaves for a salad the few weeks before that. 😊

Liberty is actually pretty good too. The darker colored leaves are stronger... Maybe a few seconds of light bitter but that would go away if I steam them.
