I have not been on line much lately. Adding sand to soil: less than a cup & blend it into the sail you have. Certainly a full cup if it is clay.

Ordered 'Breathtaking' this year. Brag, brag. It should go near Dallas Alice.

The "extra" six. I did not research them before hand because they did not appear to be "in play" as it were. They looked like they were from one member to another member. If I had done some research, I would have skipped the IB Brazen Gold and picked Breathtaking based on HighDesertNiki's picture. Don't know what else I missed, but it is all good Smiling

...'Breathtaking' going on the list! Whistling

Yes, I thought of 'Alien Mist' too, though on closer inspection, mine seems to have some brown in the blue:

Picture is a little blurry -- but mine has brown back in the throat of the beard too!

Some of them have spoons, others do not - but then my 'Alien Mist' acted rather peculiar this year and bloomed on 3 stalks from the same rhizome, but way down in the foliage:

Looking through my pictures, I found another TBI with a nice dark blue beard:

The issue is that blue beards for Tall Bearded irises come with blue flowers (Falls & Standards) while blue bearded SDB's come in lots of different flower colors and therefore the beard stands out even more!

Well, the database comes up with 1498 TBs with blue/blueish beards, most of which have blue standards and/or falls. A few are white(ish) with very pale blue/purple beards.

Best one so far, I think you'll find look familiar:
