Hi Jack,

There are way too many "I's" in that sentence. This is your daughter's assignment. It isn't about winning the big prize or getting the best grade, it's about teaching your daughter that whatever she creates is wonderful and that she can do it herself.

Homework assignments teach children responsibility, give them self-esteem, teach them time management and organizational skills, problem solving and the importance of planning and how to work independently.

You are teaching your daughter that what she does isn't good enough and if she does nothing, someone will do it for her. Winning is not the top prize in this project.

Go out and help your daughter find leaves and flowers (her choice), guide her in the planning process and sit with her and watch her paint. Offer suggestions (that's different than telling her how to do it) but keep your hands folded neatly in your lap.

Hello dear, As Ms. Daisy said it's not the thing of winning any trophy or any prize, But you should have to teach your girl about nature's creativity and only give some innovative ideas and tell her to complete assignment by herself. Always remember one thing, parents should help their child ,But in correct way. If we help them in each and every field, they don't even understand anything. I'm all ears! All the very best for your daughter's future. Yeah, if you want some work assignment name suggestions, then here are some of them.

Antosha scenario
Samantha paint
Nanna
Hallfrita garden
Jasmine touch
Heaven on gaia

That's all are the suggestions. Hope you will like it.

You mention prizes. Is this a competition? Is she going to be entering this painting to be judged against others in her class? I mean, I agree with daisy, stand back and let her pick what she wants. I even think the suggestions for help and guidance here are a bit much. I don't think you should influence this at all. No suggestions. Let her lead the project. How old is she? It depends, I guess, on if she is 5 or 10 or 15. But if this is a competition, NO HELP. it isn't fair.

Yes, it's kind of class level competition. She is 7 years old. Thank you for your advice.

Jack ...

It's strange that they labeled it as a competition. At that age children are just learning how to see the world ... especially the world of nature. This is the kind of assignment that can allow her to see the world around her in a whole new way. Standing back, but only giving her the encouragement to go for it is like handing her a gift. What fun !

Take the stress out of the whole thing and just enjoy the time you share with this project and you will have a ball. Children have a way of seeing the world without our filters. It can really be quite exciting.

I like Antosha Scenario as title of her work assignment. I shortlist that name just because of its unique and attractive meaning babynology.com/meaning-antosha-m54.html. Thank you for your help and advice.

Maybe you can take a picture of what she does and show us? I bet we'll enjoy it. I think kids that age like to feel they are doing something special (competition) and not the usual homework. Heck, people of any age...
Plant it and they will come.

You're still saying "I". Ugh. My kids have things like this and they always complain about the kids who turn in their parents work. So annoying.

PLEASE do not name her project for her. Please don't do anything. This is her assignment, not yours.

How many 7 year olds would know what Antosha Scenario refers to? I'm not sure I do.

I don't! If I were a teacher and saw that title, I would automatically assume the 7 year old did not do this work. Having been a Cub Scout Leader for 14 years it was pretty obvious in competitive events that many of the kids did not touch the project.

Well said, Daisy, and everyone else! I was going to post asking if a 7-yr. old would know what Antosha Scenario meant, too, because I have no clue. Shrug!

I'll just pile on with my reinforcement - that if parents do their kids assignments for them, the kids never learn! Then the kids go to high school or off to college and the parents wonder why they flunk out. It's about kids learning to think, make decisions and do things themselves. That's life learning and it needs to take place at school as well as home.

I teach gardening as a volunteer at our local elementary school. We teach by asking the kids questions, not by giving them answers. This engages them and makes them think.

Wouldn't it be amazing that because of this assignment, because of the child's own research of the beuatiful plants, leaves and flowers that she would become a gardener?! I would have loved that my children got more interested in gardening at a young age. Instead, they waited until they were in their 20's. Better late than never! Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Welcome! Our 7 year old grandaughter...she was 7 years in first grade and is now 7 going into 2nd grade... said "honey" (she calls me that ..thought it was my name when she was learning to speak and identify the folks in her world) "what she should do is make a garden picture using her paints AND painting it with leaves and branches instead of a brush!" "I bet it will be pretty!"
