mellielong said:Mark, they have Red Admirals in Europe, too!? That little butterfly gets around. And kudos for getting a picture because they are super fast. Also, one of those butterflies that prefers the gross stuff to flowers.
Said gross stuff was in the neighbors' garden, under a tree. And there were at least three butterflies on it, all Admirals. This one decided to take a break from his feast, hence the photo.

Nice! Quite a few black ST cats on that. I love those Variegated Frits.
Really nice photo on the Tithonia Jim.

Don't know how you guys get such great shots....

Uh Donna, you got some pretty impressive shots there yourself. Beautiful!
I have 2 cats that just went into their J's, 5 who are working on their silk button and 1 in chrysalis. That makes 8 fewer mouths to feed.

It was raining when I left for Starbucks about 11am, but this White Peacock insisted on sitting on the Porterweed.
Eventually, it stopped raining. I always say the day after a rainy day (or three rainy days) is a great time to spot butterflies because they're all hungry!
This female Spicebush did a quick fly by.
Same or different White Peacock out on the Spanish Needles.
I think this Cloudless Sulphur was new because it couldn't fly too well. Plus, look how flawless it is. I got it on my finger for about two seconds before it tried to take off again. I told it to be careful - there was a Robber Fly nearby!
This afternoon, I had another Pipevine Swallowtail emerge! Appeared to be female.
Those white peacocks sure are pretty little things aren't they? Somehow their patterning fascinates me. Great shots as always Melanie.

They're Dad's favorite butterfly! They are really cool. Seeing a fresh one is awesome. Like seeing a Buckeye when it's fresh. They're so much more complex than you think until you really look at a new one.
fla We don't get those here so a couple Melanie shows are a special treat , As was our friend from Argentina and a few who only show rarely ,
Nice to watch our planet alive in the Gardens ..

It goes both ways, Jim! You know I like seeing the Red-Spotted Purples and the Silver Spotted Skippers. Plus, I only get Red Admirals in the spring so it's nice to see them throughout the year.

Sad news on my swallowtail cat, who hadn't moved for a day or so, and I thought might be molting. But today it's definitely dead, I'm afraid.
I was out on the water from 8:30 this morning until just now, and came home to find him stuck to a leaf with his little body collapsing. I'm very disappointed, and sad for him. Hope Mama comes by and tries again.
