Something could happen in the next decade that could change weather conditions, so you just never know. I'm thinking about a large volcano eruption, as those can really affect weather world-wide for quite a while. I remember (maybe 1997) when that volcano Mt. Pinetubo (sp?) erupted, we were projected to have drought conditions for the next year but that changed everything and we got a lot of rain that following year.

Was planning on taking pix this morning, but there weren't any really good blossoms to be had. I have lots of blooms, but most of them are frost-ravaged and look really crappy. So I took pictures of the coldfront coming in. You can see it's already snowing in some parts of the foothills. You can tell these are "cold front" clouds because they're very white/greyish & rounded looking. Warm front clouds are always more ragged looking and usually a dark grey.

Well, on my side of the Denver Metro (I live in the south-eastern corner in one of the southernest cities of the 31-city metro) we did get snow, but nothing like further up north. Tabby's probably getting pretty socked in. But here's my front yard.

My poor maple tree. Sad
I live in the foothills, so I get more the most of the metro area. There's about 6 to 8 inches and it's still dumping.

*sigh* more branches down on the maple tree.

Here are some rose photos from just yesterday.

Little Linda - a very old pale yellow micro mini:

Janna - another old miniature, somewhat similar to Magic Carousel but slightly paler and flatter:

A nice branch of Janna:

And this time of year we get some fall color from the roses, especially the OGRs and species roses. Here's some color. The leaves are ragged from the hail earlier this year.

It's almost stopped snowing here. I'm expecting half of my silver maple to be down too, which I'm kind of hoping for as I'd love to get rid of that damned tree. It's sooooo soft.. every time we get a snow/heavy wind big branches area constantly dropping. Looks like that's what kind of maple you have too. I really wish they'd planted more of the sugar maples rather than the silver maples. They're too fragile for this area. All my other trees are micro trees (planted in the last year to two years) so I don't have to worry about them much.

Yes, it's a silver maple. It came with the house. We contemplated taking it down 20 years ago, but it provided really nice shade on our back lawn. We park our chairs under it in the summer.
Everything else we've planted, except the fruit trees, is tough. We've got red oak, burr oak, norway maple and purple ash. They've grown pretty big since we planted them, but they're not on the back lawn. If we took down the maple and planted a new tree, we'd be dead before it got big.

I'm contemplated paying an aborist to trim the tree next spring inorder to minimize future breakage. The long long branches are the biggest problem. Although there may not be anymore left!

THere are at least twice as many branches down now. Possibly a quarter of the tree.

If you're interested in oak seedlings - I've got LOTS to get rid of!

Oooh.. I will probably take you up on an oak seedling! I *LOVE* oaks! Lemme do a little research to see what can be planted where. Yay!!

EDIT: Do you have any of the red oak in seedlings? I'll be happy to dig them up for you. Let me know! :)

EDIT: Forgot to post this.. it's too cold for my poor dog Waffles to be running around w/o a sweater. She has no fur on her belly.

Snow on the roses!! Good Grief!

And I thought KY's weather was weird.
Tabby, I hope that tree survives.

Christmas music, indeed!

I have both burr oak and red oak and some I don't know what they are. I have some that turn red, but are lobed like burr oak. Maybe a cross between the two? Some have been in pots sunk in the ground for two years.

Red oaks turn nice colors in the fall, but burr oaks are more carefree and have the coolest acorns.

I've been wanting something for autumn color. Right now I have almost everything for spring/summer but very little fall & winter. I have been thinking about an oak because they keep their leaves throughout the winter. My two little pines are too spindly to protect winter birdies still (a Hillside Gold pine & a Wate's gold pine). I have a spot already.. was thinking about putting a pin over my baby Osiris that I buried earlier this year (I had a breakdown last night.. I miss Osiris.. http://cubits.org/roses/thread... )

Purple ash is another great tree for fall foliage.

My 21 YO daughter is still having trouble getting over the loss of Bios this past spring. A lot. He was only 2.
I'm typing one handed because of a cat. Its hard.

I have a tall upright sedum and semp bed in the back that over the graves.

That's why I'm usually not on a lot at night.. too hard to type when you have a cat on the keyboard, a cat sitting on the mouse, a cat rubbing against the monitor, a cat climbing up your pant leg (if you're wearing pants, then just using your leg as a scratching post), a cat climbing up the back of your chair swatting at your butt...

you get what I mean. Osiris was a little over 6 years of age. My oldest, Conan, is somewhere between 12 & 16 and still runs around the house chasing the kittens.

I had a purple ash tree, but it wasn't the bright I was looking for, so I gave it to a friend who has 5 acres of flat near Franktown. That's why I was looking for an oak or a maple of some kind (I have a silver maple that I hate, a baby Hot Wings maple (http://search.shelmerdine.com/...), a Brandywine maple (http://www.nurserytrees.com/Re...), and another maple (I can't remember the name.. but I think it's a October Glory). That's pretty much all the fall color I have. And I have plenty of squirrels that would appreciate the acorns.

Something like that, Zuzu!
But of course Sophy is still blooming as always. I can depend on that rose to keep my world from becoming brown and gray. She pays no attention to the weather.

You need a few more Austins, Sharon. Maybe a yellow one? They're cheerful when winter's coming.
