OK, showing my age now. Years ago I learned that the best way to know how to write a resume was to sit on the other side of the desk and watch the resumes coming in. Pieces of torn notebook paper, misspelled words, words crossed out, pencil, etc. OK, suppose I am right now hiring. We won't even mention what the job is. I would not hire anyone who cannot read a "hands" clock, who cannot add and subtract without a calculator, who cannot make change, who cannot spell without spell checker, who types only in small case without any punctuation at all. I'm sure there are more. Just call me grumpy. Gene

I figure if they have typos all over their resume their accuracy at the job doesn't look very promising either and there is not attention to detail! Now with regard to the calculator, I have to use one in my job for accuracy all the time and always double check my work with it, and I get frustrated when I can't seem to remember simple math in my head because I use the calculator so much!! I always make new job applicants submit a specific cover letter to show if they pay attention to instructions, and more than likely that is the document that will have the typos even if the resume looks good because they don't think it matters - it does! I've instilled this in my daughters and they too are very picky and have been teaching the grandchildren nodding nodding nodding Some things I think are just worth passing down to future generations Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

Showing my age too, and experience on both sides of the "desk"! It all depends on the job being offered. If I want to hire a gardener, I do not expect he will show up in an interview dressed in a suit, or know calculus. If I'm looking for a housekeeper, I wouldn't expect him to be able to type. If I need an automotive mechanic I wouldn't test for proper punctuation.

Well...if there's a disability of some sort, then they need to be accommodated. Again, it depends on the job.

But even the auto mechanic sometimes has to fill out forms, order parts, find his way to the parts store, come back with the right part and the right change, communicate with customers, etc. Gene

kadieD, I 100% agree I agree I agree - I work in a professional office so when we hire attention to detail and accuracy are critical for the job. I should have been more specific Lovey dubby Lovey dubby And there I go communicating in emojis! D'Oh!

That is just too funny! My ginger ale almost came out my nose! Ginny, the show wasn't for older people... It was for the life experienced! I know I definitely look alot younger than my actual age for a few reasons... One is my height, or lack thereof. (5' tall). Second, is because I take care of myself. At one point, I was upset about being another year older & not accomplishing some of the things I wanted to, like getting married & having kids. Felt like a failure. But then, thought about it differently over the years. Feel young & act the same... I just cringe at the number I'll be turning in December. When I think of that, I wonder where has all the time gone?

Maybe the wives were busy and had their 18 yr. old daughters buy the cards? Gene

I like to refer to it as a 'brainfart'. In that case, I must be filled with gas because I have more than I want to admit just in a day!

For the girls that can take it...I have started purchasing fridge magnets with great sayings on them and give them instead. I stick them on the fridge side while waiting for the big days. There are some good ones out there and they cost as much as a card and won't get tossed. One friend has a son who married a young lady that was not cut out for ...well life. No skills, no work, 2 kids a year apart..no cooking, cleaning, dispersed changing and finally drugs..terrible...so at the age of 64 she niw has two granddaughters and her son back home and well...life gets hectic. I got her a magnet that said "I child-proofed my house...but they keep getting in " She loved it.
