I love reading this thread, can relate to do much of it. Loved Home Ec, my senior year of high school I took three or four classes, hated gym class. Have cards that have not been sent including sympathy cards (probably won't be able to find them when needed, again).

About antiques, I stay with my 91 year old aunt every year for a week while her daughter and family go on vacation. She gets around really well but does have to use a walker. She complains so much about being old and not being able to do what she used to do (even a couple years ago you should have seen her jitterbug).
I think I need to make her a shirt that says something like
"Breezed past vintage and fast approaching antique".

Love this thread. Think of the oldest item in your home that you know you should get rid of because when you look at it, it makes you feel old. I have quite a few old things.

Nah ... the oldest item in my home is my great-grandmother's cookbook ... back when they were making angel food cakes using wood burning stoves. That cookbook reminds me how easy I've got it. I am keeping it. It also has a section of tips for the young housewife. The one I like best is, "Always sit to do chores instead of standing so that you don't tire so easily." The examples are to set up your kitchen so that you are sitting while you are peeling spuds or ironing, etc. Never stand when you can sit. With the kind of work they did back then, oh yeah. Well, with our older bodies, it's good advice for today, too.

I'll throw something else out .... I did. I threw out those hair pieces that didn't have any grey hair in them ... Whistling
I'd rather weed than dust ... the weeds stay gone longer.

My oldest things are also family heirlooms so those things need to stay. DH is 6 years older than me but think I'll keep him too Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Over the years I have periodically gotten rid of "antiques" that were becoming ugly decorating and now and then I wish I had them back D'Oh! Now and then I repurpose older items. But clothes that no longer fit (and never will again Whistling Whistling Whistling Whistling Whistling Whistling ) are what comes to mind first of making me feel old Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

This is such a fun discussion! Love reading the posts because I feel like I have found my "peer group".
Many (make that many, many) years ago, my mother-in-law came for a visit. She offered to make biscuits one morning and asked if I had any baking powder. I said, "Sure". When I handed her the can, she laughed out loud. She went on to explain that the can was severely out-of-date. Even though there were no "expiration" dates back then, she could tell by the tin screw-top lid which hadn't been used in years. I kept it and still have it today because it brings back a fond memory....even though she couldn't make biscuits.

I love my Tupperware. Though I don't have the S&P shakers, they were great for camping. They were waterproof, held a lot of product, and never leaked.

I meant, something that you don't know where you got it from or why do you still have it because it does not have any sentimental value. For example, 23" porch or barn lantern and never had a porch or barn. It is over 30 years old and the reason for keeping it was to have dim light for house parties. I know that I am old because I no longer have those house parties. I am too old! The disco lights bothered the eyes too much.

It is hideous until the lights are turned on and the stained glass look shows through. I have a pair that I am getting rid of.

You forget your age. And don't care.

When the guys selling reverse mortgages used to be "cool".

When you forget why you went into room, and go back to where you were. And wonder why you were THERE.

The names of 2 cats is too many.

A salesman calls on the phone. You HAVE a "phone", and you just want to talk.

Photoshop is "Too tricky"...

You don't know why the neighbor is shooting off fireworks, Wasn't that just last month.

Is it "Shark Week" again already?

Wait, are penguins at the South pole or the North?

You won't sell your old car because new ones ask a lot of questions.

Do my camo jeans and blue shirt look better with the black undershirt or the grey one?

Did I eat lunch yet?

In the shower you wash your hair twice. the direction SAY to...

Why is this roast chicken so hard to cut. The knife must be dull.

When you stop laughing at your OWN jokes...

When, um, when, you um, what was I saying again?

-

And there is the decade when you know all this is coming and you realize you can't stop it...

I beg to differ... Sad Sad state of mental deterioration. Crying I would like to: age with dignity, sense of humor and my wits intact, as well happiness, and laughter, and enjoyment of family and friends and everything else that I could glean from this world before I leave!! Angel

For me, forgetting why I went into a room is because I have a fully functioning brain that had been occupied with something more exciting, and then taking a break to go into another room only to wonder what could possibly be more important than what it was I was thinking about!
