Envy here. Temps dropping as they always do in Jan-Mar. At least we have sufficient show to protect our poor plants. And single digits as long as above zero is nothing to fret about. Oh shoot!!! Just remembered. I left a cartfull of seed orders on Denali Seeds. They said if I waited til January then the seeds I receive would be from 2016 harvest, not 2015 left overs like if I ordered last month.

Wahooo. Off to get my seed order off.

Weedwhacker said:A friend recently told us he always buys premium gasoline to put into his "small engine" stuff, because so much of the regular gas contains ethanol and that will cause things to clog up much more quickly.

I am totally ignorant when it comes to any kind of engines, so I don't know if this is true or not.

Depends on what state you live in; in Minn. gasoline for recreational use is the only alcohol free gasoline and it is best to not have alcohol in any gasoline if you can.
In a vehicle it will give you approx. 30 percent better fuel mileage without alcohol.

Last I checked it was -6 here.
Our high for the day was -4 but as you northerners know, the more you are in it the less it bothers you.
We need snow badly so the frost does not go so deep into the ground.

For me the winter of each year starts in Dec. and ends in March so, to me, this thread is accurate.
Right now the cold water out of the tap is cold enough you can feel it in your teeth.

Yup. Minnesota sounds like Anchorage. Single digits here, frost on everything, but at least we finally got a snow cover. I agree that our winter is really Dec-Mar also. Before that, fall/winter is just playing around at getting serious. Now the deeper cold settles in. As I have noted, however, after 37 years in Fairbanks in the interior with -30 to -55 being not that unusual and ice fog you could cut with a knife, this is almost balmy. As the guys still living in Fairbanks say, "you might as well have moved to Seattle." Rolling on the floor laughing Ain't complainin'
