Barbalee,
Hope this is not a worst weed problem contest because I would win or lose depending on how you look at it.
We do so many seedlings that new beds are created every year. Last year the beds were about 300-400 seedlings each. A total area of 10 feet wide by 150 feet long but broken into 4 beds, was planted with seedlings. We don't like pre-emergent use on the new babies. Anybody have experience with this?
Anyhow the beds started perfect, but the henbit, then winter grass and winter weeds started and got out of control. By the time I got to them in spring, you could not see a daylily in 3 of the beds. I wondered how many babies could survive. Two of the three beds had 3 foot tall winter grass by the time I got to work clearing. All was cleared and those tough little daylilies were living in there despite the owner neglect. They were tiny but took off once they saw the light.
I understand the pre-emergent could stunt their growth, but hiding under grass and weeds for a few month also stunts their growth.
I use Snap Shot once they are established. So these beds now get pre-emergent. I am adding several new seedling beds now. I already have 2000+ new babies to plant.
