Those weeds may be some type of nutgrass.

I have it here and was also concerned I was pulling "baby daylilies" at first.
After awhile, there is no problem knowing the difference.

I love the therapy theory, but I never seem to have all my flower beds clean at one time - or the house either most of the time, so I must be missing something. I am going to have to tell my family that apparently I am MUCH calmer than they think I am! LOL Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

With the right marketing plan, we might could convince some of those liberals that they need to come "save" my plants from the weeds! Heck, with a really good marketing plan, they might even pay to come for the adventure and "relaxation" ...... Crossing Fingers! Maybe they would feel sorry for my house while they are there and clean too! Smiling

Great one, Gen!

I've used Image on nutgrass. It can be sprayed over the top and doesn't bother the daylilies.

I found one gone to seed...not Nutsedge or Crabgrass, I don't think. Any guesses?

You're right, it's not crabgrass or nutsedge. It could be a foxtail (Setaria). Check out this page, you'll need to look at characteristics we can't see in the photograph. At the bottom of the page are links and information to distinguish three common foxtails. I don't know which predominate in Texas or if you have something else like it.

Looks like you nailed it, Sue! It doesn't have the "hairs," so it looks like ordinary foxtail! Now I'll know how to nail it! Thank You! Thank You!

Well, not familiar with foxtail, although we probably have some varieties mixed in with everything else - but glad to hear it isn't nutsedge. Maybe the foxtail will be a little easier to eradicate.

Thanks Leslie! I have not heard of that chemical but I will look it up! nice to know it won't hurt the daylilies which is definitely what I need in my beds!

Out for my morning therapy session again today, I find adding chickens to the session even more effective. There is something strangely satisfying about watching them gobble up those bloom destroying earwigs....

Weeds are a never ending battle and this year has been one of worst. Here's a few of the ones I'm pulling now in the seedling beds....no clue to the names....I do not spray, everything is hand weeded or scratched by chicken feet. Smiling

Weed #1, can be short or tall, branched loaded with seeds. Easy to pull but do not shake!
Thumb of 2016-09-21/Char/ec26fc

Weed #2, this is one has a very shallow root, fairly tall by the time it blooms maybe 20 - 24", light purple blue flower. Has seed pods.
Thumb of 2016-09-21/Char/ab2c44

Weed #3, this one is usually a single stem bush, around 2 - 3', pink flowers. I broke the top off and had to lean it against the gate.
Thumb of 2016-09-21/Char/0459c9

Weed #4, this one is a carpet, only grows about an inch or two tall and covers the ground. Has runners and also seems to root at every joint Grumbling I thought I had succeeded in getting rid of it two years ago...it's back.
Thumb of 2016-09-21/Char/7d69de

Weed #5, another crawling thing, easy to pull, loaded with seeds.. Must have teeny tiny flowers as I don't think I've ever seen it blooming.....just seeds... lots of them Glare

Those look similar to some of the weeds I get. But I get so many different ones, I can't even keep track of them anymore. I, too, weed by hand pulling them. No spraying here.

You have some very unique weeds Char. #5 is the only one I have seen before but don't know what it is.

Char - those look WAY too familiar. I have lots of 1, 4 and 5 .... the others I have only seen occasionally - or maybe I just don't see them blooming. I have no idea what any of them are called though.

I noticed Char said "here are a few of the ones I'm pulling now..." that would definitely be the case here. I have some similar to all of those (not quite the same, I don't think)and many more. I was gone for a month, now I have strained my back so they weeds are winning.
Edited to add: I pull thousands by hand, but I spray for the tens of thousands I don't pull, and I tolerate, begrudgingly, the other thousands that still manage to survive and multiply.

Barbalee, I'm not sure how it works. I haven't used it in a while. You spray it over the top.

I spent about 2 hours weeding yesterday until my back started to hurt and I had to stop. It probably is going to take me at least a week, maybe two, to weed all the beds before the cold weather comes.
