On January 24, 2015, I had an article published about growing Amaryllis flowers from bulbs that were encased in wax. I thought you might like to know how things turned out.

I have a pot of amaryllis growing outside. Do I have to let them die down and take them out of the soil, then repot them to get them to rebloom??

donnabking, do you want them to rebloom inside around Christmas or sometime after?

I also have amaryllis growing outside. I intend to pull them up next week and let them dry out for a few days. Then I will dust them off and cut off the foliage just above the top of the bulb. Then they go into an old shoe box and are placed in a dark corner of a closet til the first week of November. Around that time I will pot them up in fresh potting soil, water them well once, and put them near a sunny window. I water them very sparingly after that until they start to form leaves or scapes. As the leaves grow I begin watering them more often. Usually around Christmas or a bit later, I have new blooms! If you want the bulbs to bloom later in the winter, just pot them up in December or January. Good luck!
