....

Speaking of videos, I just watched the seed swap tutorial and I would like to respectfully disagree with the end of the Seed Swap tutorial video! I winced a little at the end as it sort of downplayed our swap here but, that aside for the moment, I was concerned that it indicated that there isn't enough time left for people to join; but please let your friends here on the site know that is not the case! There is enough time for friends to still join if they would like. It doesn't take too long to enter seeds and, with the weekend coming up, many people should have some free time they can carve out this weekend in order to create their lists. And, as we've seen in previous swaps, sometimes there are last-minute additions to our seed lists (even during the swap, when necessary). The video was an excellent tutorial, but IMHO, the ending does not reflect what we've experienced in this swap, which is an AMAZING group of people (The BEST, in my not-so-humble opinion! Rolling my eyes. ) ...and the fact that we can easily work with last-minute additions. With our outstanding seed swap veterans and the quick-to-learn newbies who already know most of the ropes, I feel very confidant that we could help any last-minute member additions with getting everything together in order to participate and have fun in our swap! I hope other members out there didn't listen to the last few moments of the tutorial, but I know we already have some wonderful ambassadors here in our swap that can encourage others to still join if they are interested in the next few days. Big Grin

@dave , at some point today or sometime soon, if you have some time, may I respectfully request that the end of the YouTube video be changed so that the seeming dismissal of our swap here doesn't get viewed in that video for all posterity? Blinking I don't think (or hope it didn't, anyway) come across quite the way you intended at the end, but if you re-watch the tail end, I think you might see what I saw and why I'm a little concerned.

Did anyone else watch the tutorial, and did you feel likewise?

I won't edit the video once it's uploaded, but I can add a little text box onto the video giving extra info about the swap.

Well, I looked at it again and don't see any changes that should be made. Mentioning that it will be over by the time most people see the video doesn't seem dismissive to me in any way.

I went ahead and just chopped off the closing part which included my mention of the current swaps that were ongoing. Hopefully that resolves your concerns.

Now I can say without any caveats that I REALLY like the video! Thank you for creating such a handy tool! I'm glad that you emphasized the need to go back and check the seeds with the green check-mark tool, because that seems to be the number one issue that we have each swap. I really like that you were to the point and I like that you did what none of us could do (at least not without chopping up the video into segments), which is alter the dates so that you could show us in one, smooth video, how the swap changes from recruitment period to trading time, to mail-in time. I think that helps clear up a lot for the users. One of the other big questions I get is how the tickets work because, prior to the swap, participants don't see the treasure chest, so there is confusion as to how they are supposed to claim dibs. Your video clearly demonstrated what to do.

So, a BIG thank you for making that video! You've just made things a hundred times easier for countless future seed swap members. Hurray!

[quote="DogsNDaylilies"]Leslie....is this your second or third win of the year? Are you Irish? ...because you certainly are lucky! Hilarious!

*Blush* It's my third win this year and I won at least twice last year. I feel a little guilty and think of sitting out but then I remember that we all have the same chances so.....................plus I really can't. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

... And I would argue that you shouldn't, either. If you have that many acorns, you've clearly put forth a lot of time and effort contributing to the site! You deserve those wins.

@Agoo
I'm sorry I missed your birthday, but happy belated birthday! I hope it was a special day with lots of love, friends, and family!

My husband and I discovered in the last few years that we're of an age now where birthdays get forgotten about until they are very near... That, and we actually have to think about our ages now. Hilarious! Not that we are old, but at some point we get caught up in life so much, we forget to celebrate it! I'm determined to keep the fun of birthdays alive, though, and I hope you do, too!

...btw, Colleen, if I haven't said it before, I love your tagline. As a fan of Star Trek and a person who values intellect and wisdom above nearly all other attributes, I think that is a perfect tagline. One of these days I should figure out a tagline for my own profile. One of these days... Rolling my eyes.

I know I've told Daniel this, but I also love his 'signature' line. I tried defining a weed to my husband once in the past and I used a similar description...a weed is just a plant that someone doesn't want in their garden, pretty much regardless of what it is. An unwanted rose could be a weed, in theory...

I'm glad to hear that it's gone! I'm sorry you had to undergo treatment in the first place, I can't imagine it was a pleasant experience.

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions about the swap as you get started. There is a fantastic tutorial that Dave created on how to get started in the seed swap if you haven't viewed it already: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

There is also an FAQ that answers some of the questions that often come up: http://garden.org/ideas/view/D...

This particular thread is the off-topic thread and you can write about whatever you want in here. If you go into the seed swap forum, though, you will see other, more focused threads about more specific topics within the seed swap.

Please don't hesitate to jump right in, ask questions, make conversation (if you like), and enjoy the swap!
