Char and Mellie are keeping me going with me need to see BF photos fix! Hurray! It's kinda limited here now Sad

I looked up the pretty pinkish and orange caterpillar of Christine's too. I want the green ones here! wah wah wah
Apparently they do live in my zone according to the Buguide photo. never seen one of them Shrug!
After a little more searching online, I found they need Oak as the host plant. Check mark... there's already one big Pin Oak here, plus a medium one a few doors over, PLUS I planted two White oaks and a Swamp oak recently. Only the Swamp Oak is growing super-duper quickly, but the Whites are more for posterity than anything. Crossing Fingers!
"My work is loving the world. Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird — equal seekers of sweetness. Here the clam deep in the speckled sand. Are my boots old? Is my coat torn? Am I no longer young, and still not half-perfect? Let me keep my mind on what matters, which is my work which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished." — Mary Oliver, from Messenger

The Caterpillar Lab in New England shared a Kickstarter campaign on Facebook. There's a man in the UK making scarves based on caterpillar patterns! Your donation gets you a scarf, or many scarves, based on how much you give. I don't wear scarves because it's hot as heck down here, but take a look at this super-inspired crafty man! I love when nature inspires people like this.

Sometimes I have to remind myself that plants are meant to be eaten....
and I'm okay with that. Even when the process messes up a perfect bloom. Sighing!

Christine, yes that's a Pipevine.

Char, what is that chrysalis on? The shape reminds me of a Buckeye, but not the color. Very interesting...

I get Painted Ladies and American Ladies so rarely. So tell us what it's on, Char! I'm trying to remember the last time I raised any. It wasn't this year, but maybe I had a few last year? It helps when the county doesn't mow down the cudweed.

I had thought about those, but I don't get them in Florida and I'm not too familiar with them. But wasn't it Christine who was posting all the pictures of the Bordered Patches on her Cowpen Daisies? Enlighten us, Texans!

That's probably what it is because there are lots of Bordered Patch around. This was on a salvia, but that doesn't matter. The cowpen daisies are still hosting caterpillars so this one just wandered off.
Thanks for the identification!!!

Today, I chased this butterfly with aged, aching limbs. Lovely thing.

Then I look at Christine's avatar.....is it in America too?

The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

Christine's is a Common Buckeye - Junonia coenia
the Meadow Argus looks like a close relative , but there are definitely some small differences.

Nooo, not that I remember. I think I would recall seeing a Bordered Patch here but then again my mind is getting old...

I raise a lot of cowpen daisies which are a host plant for bordered patch butterflies.
