My buzz has worn off so I guess it's safe to post now.
When I came home from vacation, I had a welcome committee of a Tiger Swallowtail!
How can you tell when it's fall in Florida? The Cloudless Sulphurs stop long enough to let me take a picture!
Zebra Longwing on Jatropha. Didn't let me get but one pic!
Gulf Fritillaries are still everywhere.
I also have quite a few Long-Tailed Skippers. I wonder if they know this is the Long house?
Those pics were from the other day. Here's some from today, well, now it's yesterday. More Long-Tailed Skippers.
The Gulf Fritillaries were on the porterweed, too.
Pretty sure this is an Ocola Skipper. Coloring varies a bit on these, but the wings are pretty distinctive.
I have two Passiflora suberosa plants out front on the trellis. If you look at the lower right, you can see the plant that's been there for months putting out new growth. The larger leaves are actually the plant I transplanted a few weeks ago. I was worried I didn't get enough of the root, but then we got about a straight week of rain due to that whole hurricane thing. So it's been doing pretty well. So well, I've got Gulf Frit cats on it. FYI, that's the reason the older plant only has a few leaves. As soon as they sprout, they get eaten.
Meanwhile, the Senna ligustrina plants I transplanted a few months ago (May?) are doing really well. I wasn't sure if they would bloom in their first year, but they are! FYI, the area that's cleared in the background on the left is where I transplanted my baby milkweed plants. I still have more weeding to do, but I'm waiting until the weekend when the temps are supposed to drop.
I looked over the Sennas, and found some caterpillars! This one kind of gave himself away with the munching.
But where you really find them this time of year is on the buds. Cloudless Sulphur cats turn yellow from eating the buds! It's super cool. These guys aren't big enough to know for sure, though. They might be Orange-Barreds. Oh, and at first I only saw one caterpillar, but then I looked closer and saw I had two!
And another one! Frass is a good giveaway, too.
Fall colors in Florida!
FYI, this is the mulched area where the baby milkweeds are.
