Holy Cow!!! It's a MOTH????????? Yup, you nailed it, William. Nice work! I had no idea....but then there are only about 100 million things that I still don't know about Nature. It's always a thrill to learn something new. I'll keep taking photos and you smart folks can provide the names.
Oh jeez, if this is a moth, it's on the wrong forum. Sorry Melanie! I didn't know it was a moth. D'Oh!

I'm going to post a sneak-peek here of a new butterfly species I spotted today. Tomorrow I'll go into more detail on the Butterfly, Moth, Larva forum. However, I have a LONG hike planned in the morning, so it will be late.
Anyway, I *think* (and I could be wrong; it's been known to happen) that this is a Mallow Scrub-hairstreak. Another 'first' for me.

So, I think this means that you have to enter these pics into the photo contest, under Misc. probably, even though they're birds! Hope you will. Crossing Fingers!

Clever moth, to pretend to be a wasp.
Hey did y'all notice the name- Horama panthalon,? I am guessing panthalon is for it's showy "pantaloons".

That's so cool Char! I suspected it was a moth because of the feathery antenna. Although, those legs were really throwing me! Also, the wings looked very similar to some other wasp-mimic moths we have in these parts. Ours don't look quite that fashionable, though. (Mika, I liked your "Vogue" comment.) Thumbs up Hilarious!

Char, did you see where I just saw my first Scrub Mallow Hairstreak when I was down in Naples? It was on the beach at Keewaydin Island when I was doing my boat cruise. I had BAMONA confirm it for me because I knew it didn't look quite like any other Hairstreak I'd seen. It was in this post: http://garden.org/thread/view_...

Char, that is one of the craziest looking insects I've seen, ever!! It looks really mixed up, part moth, part wasp, part leaf footed bug! Hilarious! I wonder what those fuzzy feather legs are for? I'll have to read up. Nature is amazing. Smiling

Strictly speaking, a large 'near' garden guest as the squirrel stayed on top of the fence till running over the top of the neighbor's garage.

I really like squirrels - it's the joyous way they have of leaping rather than walking. And yours has such a lovely colour, jm. Ours are cute, but much more grey.

This is a young Lace Monitor about 3 feet long. I could tell he was about because he was being followed very attentively by Pied Butcherbirds, Noisy Friarbirds and Blue-faced Honeyeaters every time he moved. This goanna is a nest predator. When the endangered Glossy Black Cockatoos are nesting we bandage the trees with 6 feet of smooth galvanized iron so they cannot get any purchase on the trunks.
