If somebody had told me there are green bees, I would have taken it as a joke. Seeing your picture leaves no doubt: they do exist! Amazing!

My mother (German) would have said: man wird alt wie 'ne Kuh und learnt immernoch dazu! something like ' you get old like a cow and still keep learning new things.

Jack, Iv'e never heard of them being called Stilt bubgs-- but it's a good description. Here I've only known of them as Crane Flies, and a lot of folks think they're huge mosquitoes out to get them! Once on a trip to New England in the early summertime, I was attacked by huge mosquitos while trying to get water at a well while camping. That area has some nasty biting bugs.
"My work is loving the world. Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird — equal seekers of sweetness. Here the clam deep in the speckled sand. Are my boots old? Is my coat torn? Am I no longer young, and still not half-perfect? Let me keep my mind on what matters, which is my work which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished." — Mary Oliver, from Messenger

Fantastic shots everyone! and thanks for the little lesson in German Ursula- it's such a true statement.

Char's "Mega-fly" is a Tachinid Fly, a predator. You can tell who they are by their really bad hair!
The little green bee is a sweat bee. Sometimes they have a black and white striped abdomen, but the females like Char's can be a completely solid green. Both of them have a bit of hair on their bodies they use to collect pollen called Scopae-remember anybody? Crossing Fingers! They nest inside the ground in tiny individual tunnels.

Cuckoo wasps look very similar in size and color, but are more or less bald (and no stinger either :::sigh:: of relief)
They are called Cuckoos b/c they do what a Cuckoo bird does, lay their eggs in the nest of another which survive off their host.

Yellow jackets can be really annoying this time of year because the young are already raised and they have too much empty time on their hands- rather feet, or wings whatever Hilarious!
Who doesn't just love them? Actually they're really good pollinators in the early summer and they can eat about a pound of insects within a 1000 sq ft garden! They liquefy their catches to feed the young- bleech!

Now for some visuals:

No No THANK YOU !! LOL I ENJOY researching and repeating some of the stuff I already know. It's not tiresome at all! Some is new info, some old, but I'll tell Mellie and Christine I don't mind repetition- it's how we learn and we may always have new people here.
I'm glad you take notes Char Makes me feel as if I still get to use my education in El Ed Smiling

Yeah--- I was wondering why the comparison of the age of a cow of all things. Methuselah like 900 or something. Shoot we'd have a face like some of the insects here if we got that old!
