OOPS!
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

Even with an electric starter you can use a lighter (at least I used to be able to)

Yes, lighting a gas range with an elecrtric starter with a match or lighter does work, I tried it once during a power outage. We no longer have a gas range, I use induction now, but we do have a side burner on our grill that comes in handy when the lights go out.

The power is still going on and off here, same with the fiber optic phone and TV. It seems to be the downed tree removal, as they lift out these huge root balls with cranes and back hoes, they are yanking on the underground cables. We had more than 1,000 trees down in the neighborhood so it was inevitable.

Periodic power outages are probably going to happen for a while. Some tree's that may not have come down, or limbs that are weakened but didn't break will be more susceptible to even light winds now.

Yesterday when I was walking around the yard I noticed an oak tree with a large branch cracked and broken off but it hasn't fallen because it's laying across a living branch. Luckily it's not near any power lines but it's too high for my husband to get up there with his chain saw so we'll probably have to call the tree guy to come out and take it down along with a big maple branch high up in that tree that's dangling.

We were just so very blessed in this area that the storm didn't track farther west! I feel so sad for those who have suffered excessive damage from Matthew. Group hug

We were so prepared this time for power outages, prior to storm we went to Motorhome got our lanterns, headlamps, propane stove, filled our propane grill canister, put tons of gallon jugs in freezer and froze them. I'm sure that is why we didn't lose power Hilarious!

DH was talking to a neighbor the other day who told him he didn't prepare for the storm (no gas for his generator, no propane, etc.) D'Oh!
