Music is playing this morning, and as I remembered I have a few new (to Me) artists I need to give a listen to, I found myself wondering what you all love, what is new, what is your most played, what is the best concert you ever saw, and on and on.

I post this here, because I know the people here the best. I know I can go to the sandbox, but I want to make sure to get as many of you to share as I can, and I don't see a lot of you at that forum. It's nice to get suggestions from friends. Who knows, maybe some of you are bonafide rock stars!!

How is the best way to post a thread like this and reach as many of you as I can, without posting all over the place, which can be a bit annoying to some. If the entire garden forum is the wrong place for this; period,..... and I should drop it, don't be afraid to tell me that as well. I just want opinions, and not do something that ends up just being annoying

I love all types of music, from Country, Pop, Christian, Classical, Opera ... some of my favorite artists are Carrie Underwood, Adele, Alicia Keys. I haven't been to a concert in years and years; I don't like crowds but I'd probably go to a Garth Brooks concert if I had the chance ... and Adele for sure!

I have to say I'm a rock girl myself. And the blues, I love the blues.

Growing up in Detroit during the 60's, one can't help but love Motown. Last year I took my family to see Stevie Wonder. There was no say in the matter but no one complained anyways. That was probably the best concert I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of concerts.

That being said, I also love Adele, and Alicia Keys also. My daughter's BFF traveled to Philadelphia to see Adele, lucky girl! She said she was amazing.

What do you listen to, Laurie?

I was a teenager in the 60's and I loved the Beatles, Otis Redding, Janis Joplin, the Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder and many artists of that era. My husband is a big fan of the Beach Boys and Jimmy Buffet, neither of which are my cup of tea but I tolerate when he plays that music. I enjoyed music of the 30's and 40's because my mom listened to it a lot, she was a huge Sinatra fan. I loved the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac, popular in the 70's. Nowadays, even at the age of 68, I listen to a lot of different Genre of music and I even enjoy some of the current younger artists; Bruno Mars, Farrell, Sam Smith, Pittbull. Sometimes it's the instrumentals and the beat though, rather than lyrics.

I know and love every one you guys listed.

Gosh, I like so much.

The song I seem to need, and have to always play over and over is Van Morrison’s Covering Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” It is just haunting and quite different, with the best long guitar solos of all time, and as soon as it is over I have to restart it. Not too into Pink Floyd, somehow, and don’t care about Roger Waters Version.

Old music, Joe Cocker. Doobies, Heart, Heart again. Van Morrison, Paul Simon, (weird I Know) Bonnie Raitt, Fleetwood Mac, Paul McCartneys Wings, Old Rod Stewart, Smokey Robinson. The Guess Who, Three Dog Night. CSNY, Eagles, Petty, Stevie Wonder, Queen, oh my so much more. Yes, The Band, Almann Bros. Clapton, JJ Cale, Beatles, The Traveling Willburys, Roy Orbison. Etta James, BB King. Neil Young, Dave Matthews, Journey. James Taylor. Lyle Lovett, (honestly amazing. And so good live. Dare I say, Michael Jackson. Bob Marley. Creedence, Hall and Oats. Big House. Laurie, I think a specific thread in any forum you want is perfect for topics like this one. Some of the forums have off-topic threads that cover everything and anything, some have individual threads for fun stuff. Last year, the Iris forum had an adventure story using names of Iris as the characters. Pretty flexible folks around here. Debra

Gosh Laurie, we like the same music!

There are a few songs I never get sick of, and play the cd's over & over (in the car). Robbie Robertson, Todd Rundgren ~ any Todd fans out there?? He is so awesome, gotta listen to the words as well as the melodies. He produced a few Hall & Oates albums. Have you ever seen "Live from Daryl's House" on tv?

Dare you say Michael Jackson? I don't think anyone can deny his talent. My DH cannot stand him, but yet doesn't deny the talent. Too bad he wasn't allowed to grow up his own way. Such a shame.

Speaking of Yes, Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin & Rick Wakeman are touring, doing the music of Yes. Guess who has first row balcony seats? How could I not?

I think the first album I bought for myself was 'The Last Waltz'. I had them before that, but they were gifts. I bought that and 'Physical Graffiti' on the same day.

Marvin Gaye... I love Marvin Gaye. Gary Clark Jr is a winner too.

Music is as important to me as gardening. I listen to music according to my mood.
When I am in the depth of a crisis I turn to my upbringing of Spritual. "Take my hand Precious Lord" I remember my mom walking around the house and garden singing that song.

I need a up lift, doing exercise any artist Motown, or Pop music will be on for that mood

Just happy and driving I will have anything on from Country, Pop, Opera. When I was in grade school if your parents gave you .25 a week you were taken to a opera. I originally begged my parents for the quarter so I could get out of class. Later I did not forget my .25 because I learned to love it and looked forward to the trip.

@smiley I record Live from Daryl's House. I miss the guitarist. Another feud. Great show, Saw him play with John Oats a few years back.
Have you seen the "Big Easy Express" . It's a long form music video entitled "Big Easy Express" of three bands on a train, and playing gigs along the way, on tour in 2011, The show won a grammy. And can be seen on tv or online. Google for what bands play , but from what I can see in your music, you are going to really love it.

Yes was so amazing and ahead of their time. They were one of the bands you never saw on album covers, or anywhere. It will be fun to "see" them sing. Balcony, first row. Oh good choice.

Wow, I missed the Last Waltz, completely slipped by me. Was it an hr, or more a movie. I will be watching that very soon. You are much more informed on The Band than I. The movie Almost Famous by Cameron Crowe, is rumored to be largely about The Band.

Sounds like you have gone to concerts all your life. We have too. I have every ticket stub in an old check book register. Any one you are still hoping to see?
@plantladylin, Otis Redding is just one of a kind special. Love whenever I hear him sing. Now PIttBull. I am going to have to look at him again. I have two big books of cd's at work I listen to. Husband always frets someone will steal it. No one wants cd's, lol. I do think that people are missing so much about musicians if they don't take in the whole album. Tells you so much more about the artists when you hear every song, not just the top 2 or 3.

@Cinta, your family really took in all music. That is pretty rare, and lucky. If there is an opera I would like, please share. I am not proud to say I never could acquire the taste for it. We would not have music without the spirituals, and old hymns.

The reason I started to enjoy it was because we learned the story behind the songs before we went. I remember the first one was Madam Butterfly which was a good start.

When you think of opera we think of just words we do not understand but by understanding the story then when you hear the songs and see the acting it is beautiful to see and hear.

Blues and Classic Rock for me. Random favorites: Stevie Ray Vaughn, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, Janis Joplin, Tom Waits, Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan. John Mellencamp makes good music but I don't like his attitude. Can't beat the lyrics of John Hiatt. Indigo Girls for great harmony. Bob Marley has a special spot in my heart. Rita Coolidge has a lovely pure voice, as did Eva Cassidy. Lin, I also grew up doing chores to my mom's music - pretty sure I know all the words to every song Dean Martin ever sang. I love listening to Pandora with just a couple selected artists, then see what else they come up with. I don't care at all for Country music - drives me right out of the feed store (I keep telling them if they would turn it down I might stick around and spend more money...) Fun thread!

Went to a John Mellencamp concert, he was an hr late, so I agree with you on this too.

Thank you for your experience Deb. I love how broad and diverse we all are, and yet so much similarity too. Music is always like that.

My first concert was Jimi Hendrix at Sicks Stadium in Seattle July 1970. I was a junior in high school. Great music, great times.
