I'm so sorry about this, Toni. I'm afraid Edmunds' has lost a lot of us in the last few years. The quality of their roses doesn't match their high prices.

My Edmunds roses are waaaay larger and better than the ones we got from Brushwood. The Brushwood babies are still babies. Two have died.
The Austin order I received a few weeks ago is catching up to the Edmunds order in growth, and I planted the Edmunds roses in late Feb. the Palatine order is the biggest roots ever---even bigger than Wayside at their very best. They have not leafed out yet, but it's just been a week. The canes are narrow but green. I was impressed by how big the canes on Red Intuition are--I bid on that rose at a district rose show and it had long, spindly, wild-looking canes. These are much nicer. It has to be that those were maiden roses and these are grafted on multiflora.
So here's my ranking for this year:
Best:
1. Palatine
2. Kniffings in El Cajon
3. Arnolds nursery in Leroy Ks
3. (tie) Austin
4. Edmunds
5. bag roses from Lowes
6. potted roses from Walmart
7. grocery store parking lot nursery clearance rack after tornado
8. Brushwood

Still to come: Parks (because I never learn), and 17!! from Chamblees.
So, Toni, you see, it could be worse! How are your Palatine roses doing? You got them at least a month before I asked for mine, but then who knew we wouldn't have a winter here? I held off the order until April because march is usually a game of freeze and thaw, and a warm march is often a killer to roses.
Remember that children, marriages, and flower gardens reflect the kind of care they get.

Cindi - I got my Palatine about 3 weeks ago and all but Summer Sun has leaves on it, but that one has "leaf pimples". I think I'm going to just stick with Palatine if I'm going to order. I'm running out of space and I can usually find 20-30 roses locally that I don't have. I've had a successful beginning of my annual Hunt, so I'm looking forward to this year being a good rose year.

I still have a few dozen bands on the way, so I won't have the thrill of the hunt this year, I'm afraid. Just the thrill of digging lots and lots of holes.

Sorry to hear about your experience with Edmunds, Toni. I had mixed experience with them last year. I thought the roses they sent were large and well developed, but maybe they were not very vigorous. Most took root and look this year like they might actually grow a little. Maybe I'll get actual flowers out of them next year.

I must say that I have been very pleased with Palatine. Dozens of vigorous roses, no failures. Unprecedented.

I'm not so pleased with a lot of other rose suppliers. The roses I got from David Austin this year were a lot smaller than those I got three years ago, and smaller than those a year back. If the trend continues apace, in five years they will be selling boxes of air for $23 apiece.

My potted roses from Lowe's at $5 apiece last year surprised me. Admittedly, MAAB is probably dead, but Pristine and Camelot are big and happy.

I'll have to try some roses from Brushwood if only to see if they can be worse than the not-so-very-rooted-cuttings I once bought from Heirloom Roses decades ago.

wow, pathetic. "These are 'sneak preview' roses and that's why they're on the smaller side."

I called up Edmunds & complained about how pathetic Music Box was. This is their excuse. Well, Koko Loko was a "sneak preview" last year, too, and that one was MUCH bigger than this slightly-bigger-than-a-band-in-my-opinion rose. I told her that it wasn't tagged, had only 2 tiny canes, and is pretty pathetic. I offered to send her the picture above. They had no idea when they're shipping my Twilight Zone or Sparkle & Shine, so I had her cancel those. Now I need to watch my CC 'cuz they already charged it & see if/when they refund me.

No more Edmunds for me.
