I think you are right. I had just purchased this plant from a reputable nursery here several weeks ago, and it looks like it is labelled wrong. I will protest to them :)
I certainly thought the name sounded wrong too. How do you call such a wee cactus a monstrose?

Just took a photo of Eve's Needle - Austrocylindropuntia subulata as it looks like this winter season of 2012. Has turned vivid red on some new growth..looks cute, as if ready to give a flower. At least since it has been a less rainy winter, it did not become squishy at the base like it did 2 years ago.

Hmm..I searched online if there is any info/photo of its blooms..apparently it has..but we'll see if it is true. I have never seen my little ones ever have one. Hoping it will yey!

As I have moved around my cacti to a different container over the weekend, I saw that the stenocactus coptonoganus has some flower buds forming..I hope the move to a different container will not make it abort its blooms later..

Actually ambient temp is right now at 66F and expected to go 75F later...the one on the thermometer is the direct heat that the plants get. It is actually nice to be outside, cool breeze and sunny..lovely gardening weather

Had to pull out one of my cacti...just having a hard time with these frequent rains, rotting once again from the base Will wait till weather improves or maybe repot it in a much smaller container all on its own.
