Enjoys or suffers cold winters
Catalog came & I do wish that they would show there nice calendars earlier in the year. I get ours for those in the family who don't get them in the mail at an earlier time. Family is quite specialized as to likes.

All of the new roses are in the ground!! Hurray! I'd ordered a bunch more than I thought... Hilarious! I'm not entirely sure that I'm going to be pleased with their placement (some seem a little too close), but at least they're settled for the winter. Bring on the weather!....I'm ready! No more digging in the mud for me until maybe April, or May...it may take that long for my back to recover, that mud was very sticky and awfully heavy! Rolling on the floor laughing

I used to get horse calendars every year, but for the last few I've been quite happily stuck on hummingbirds from the WWF. Lovely and large pictures of hummers and blooms - quite the perfect combo for me. Lovey dubby

Yep, that sounds about right, Janice.

Now, January is the time to get caught up on all those little things that get put off during the rest of the year....just a bit of this, and a little of that. Smiling Oh, and plenty of time to just look out the windows and enjoy the sights of winter. Right now we're enjoying the perfect winter day; a light snow is falling, there's no wind to speak of, and temps are bearable. Hurray!

In my USDA growing zone 5b it's not unusual to get late spring frosts so when I started my garden I planted for winter interest, then fall, then summer, and some spring as I can't stand the anticipation of spring and my first blooms destroyed by late frosts. I think my favorite fall/winter plants are the ornamental grasses. Their big plumes feed the birds and I get such a kick out of watching the birds teeter totter off the top of the plumes when feeding and snatching a few pieces to build their nests. In fall they add movement and sound with a gentle breeze. When winter comes they add structure and beauty from the glistening ice and snow which clings to them and sparkles on a sunny winter day.

I agree too, although our winter interest this year was lessened by that heavy, wet snow we had a couple of weeks ago. Most of our tall grasses are now prostrate grasses. Hilarious!

Wow, Susan - if I didn't already like grasses, I'd be dying for some now! Ever think of writing advertising pieces? Rolling on the floor laughing
