I used to have to pay for the glass mulch, but Austin has been recycling it and now offers it for free. You just back your truck up and take as much as you want. It's mixed with sand, so I wash it before I use it. It smells a little like stale beer too until it's washed! 'Like the sparkle on the paths and pots, and the slugs and snails don't seems to care for it...

Hilarious! It's tumbled in sand, so there really aren't many sharp edges.

Thanks, Allison. And I had a similar thought about the glass. It would really be pretty scattered in my garden, especially if there was a lot of it, but I like to walk around in the garden and often with just flip-flops on my feet. A disaster waiting to happen.

(Bubbles posted her response before I clicked Finished.)

Maybe it's the beer aroma that the slugs and snails don't like. (Snugs and slails)

Wow... I love that idea! I wish Houston did that. Austin is always WAYY ahead of us when it comes to recycling.

The guy at the recycle center told us a lady drove a little truck up and filled the entire bed with glass. They tried to tell her there was too much weight in it to safely get back to ....Houston....but she said she HAD to have it! They were afraid the tires would blow out. Marilyn, .....was that you???
We only got enough this last time to cover the tops of some pots I was taking to a show...and the rest I used to "freshen" the path.

I've never cut my foot (knock on wood)...and I sometimes run out barefooted to scream at a squirrel....but I have large limestone slabs to walk on that are surrounded by the glass. And it's only a path down behind the pond.

When it gets cold and there's nothing to do in the garden...if anyone wants some, I can send it in a Priority box (washed of course). "If it fits, it ships," right?

LOL Nope, wasn't me. Next time you go, though, if they tell you any stories about a Houston lady pulling up with an old Nissan Maxima and filling up the trunk..

Rolling on the floor laughing I can see it now!

I love Austin. Clients flew me there a few years ago to paint three murals for their children. I stayed in their beautiful casita (guest house) for 2 weeks. Sweet!

Gaaaaa....that's too funny! I usually don't care for pet pics, but I might have to change my attitude.
And I'm serious about the glass. As long as the city gives it away, I think we should spread the wealth. I once got a Priority pkg of 400 metal plant tags from a co-op....the small box...and it weighed 32 lbs. The postman brought it to the door and asked DH, "What's she ordering now...bricks?" They may have a weight limit now, but whatever it is...I can accommodate... Whistling

Thanks Guys for the WELCOME. I don't have a lot of time these days for chitter chatter. I spend more time reading than talking most days.

I am really glad to see this new site and very glad to see some familiar faces here.

I absolutely love the idea of recycled glass paths. WOW I would love to see some photos. If they are already out there, someone please share a link.

Good Lord it's been hot around here. I'm proud to have a 5 day forecast of rain for Southeast Texas FINALLY!
