Are you going to try it?
Did you read about the hand held feeder and how to get the hummers to use it by introducing it into the area of other feeders they are using?
They also suggest wearing sunglasses as our eyes can freak out the tiny birds!
Not sure I could hold still long enough....

I think you would have to have them very well used to the feeder just sitting by you, then hold it when you see they are VERY comfortable.
And where did they film it? Would help to have a lot of hummers.
A hawk (s) hangs around a lot more frequently these days. But would a small hawk -red tailed?- take a 4 lb chicken? With the trees bare, we can easily look to see if one is perched nearby.

A new record today- 3.3 ounce egg Thumbs up
Plant it and they will come.

Oh Sally! I remember a chicken hawk getting one of our chickens when I was six or so.

Chicken hawk aka red tailed hawk so yes they can. A problem is flying off with the catch.....which may be too heavy to clear a fence.....

The HB video was shot in Calif garden center so lotsof birds around,

Here it is 55+ and sun sun sunny. Birds seem more interested in singing than eating! Daffodils are up 7inches!

Love is in the air.

The starlings nearly found our PB feeder yesterday... we scared the single "scout" off twice, and then a mockingbird showed up for guard duty. Of course once the mockingbird found it, the PB was gone in by the end of today, but that's better than stripped in 10 minutes by a brawl of starlings.

Taking feeders in for a few days can work, but Some winters we haven't been able to feed PB or suet at all, thanks to the starlings. They don't seem as drawn to seed feeders most of the time, thankfully

Starling- saw one yesterday, but haven't seen the hordes. Did hear some, but also hearing more cardinal 'spring time' singing which is a delight.
Besides picking over the lawn, it seems I would see them more when I threw out bread. Now that chickens pick over big part of the lawn and eat every treat we can think of, I guess the starlings will make do with front yard, and the unfenced part of the back.

Mark switched the automatic door position, to close it while he cleaned the coop, and forgot to reset it. The door was closed when they would normally go in to sleep, so they 'camped out' on the outside perch in the enclosed run. Now, some of them continue sleeping out!
Plant it and they will come.

I haven't seen red winged black birds even though I live in the midst of marshy wetlands. Sighing!

Yeah, we wish we could teach our hawks to take English Sparrows and Voles.

That's a cute chart with the bird songs

We've had the strangest thing today. A pair of bluebirds acting like they want to enter the great-room doors for hours. They have been persistent in flying to the glass for hours as well as performing flagrant displays of public affection on the doorstep no less. I'm sure if I opened one of the sliders they would come right in. My walking up to the glass or the dogs bouncing off the inside has done nothing to deter them. Rolling on the floor laughing

Crazy bluebirds!
We're going on a birdwalk in Bowie tomorrow, assuming we don't wimp out on waking for a 7:30 meet time. And assuming the rain has stopped
Plant it and they will come.

The rain yesterday must have cooled the BBs ardor or they had to "get a room" to stay dry. No sighting of them today. Hilarious!
