Surprised they don't return for a second brood.

The robin nest in the little Japanese Snowbell was torn apart last week... maybe weather but more likely crows. I know it's their intelligence, getting the biggest meal, but I hate the way they watch a nest until the nestlings are nearly ready to fledge before swooping in. Crying

I put up a new bird house about two weeks ago and the other day when I was out working in that area, I saw that a black capped chickadee had taken up residence. It kept flying in and out, very industrious setting up house Lovey dubby

We evicted the house sparrows, again, and tied the door open for a day and a night or so. Assuming, hoping the sparrows were so ready to nest they would pick something else. It worked- The bluebirds are back!
Plant it and they will come.

A Carolina wren has nested on or near our patio for at least the 5th or 6th year. She (they?) is accustomed to my presence and will scurry across the ground no more than a yard from my feet while I am sitting and up-potting plants. This year a large terracotta pot full of packing peanuts sits stored under the patio table. A smaller pot is inverted on top, but askew, leaving a sufficient gap for access. Chicks are getting feathers now and will soon be gone.

awww! That actually sound like a great nest location- warm, good drainage, sturdy..
Plant it and they will come.
