I just finished watching the two hour premiere and really enjoyed it. The actress playing the young Victoria does a wonderful job, and I'm a big fan of Rufus Sewell who plays the British Prime Minister who was a confidante and love interest to the Queen. Apparently he was much older (and less attractive! ) in reality so it would be difficult to understand the attraction between a 18 year old Victoria and him; that's assuming the portrayal is true to history! Lots of the typical intrigue and backstabbing that seems to be prevalent in the monarchy. I'm looking forward to the next episode.

Last night I saw in netflix The Three Musketeers - 2011 version, this version had Orlando Bloom as Duke of Buckingham. I always loved three musketeers and I like Orlando Bloom, but I prefer the 1993 version which starred Charlie Sheen better. Smiling

Many good versions of the 3 Musketeers exist. Brings to mind one of my favorite movies from that same period: Cyrano de Bergerac 1950, IMDB 7.6, starring Mel Ferrer. IMO, mostly a comedy. So many great quotable lines! Gene

Got to watch The Last Knights in netflix while waiting for our stormy weather to pass. I like the story, some may not, reminds me actually of samurais and their bushido code, honor bound to their masters, but this is a western one, so they are knights. Clive Owen carries the role well. Remembering the value of Honor in our power hungry world.

RGR review of the movie Hidden Figures, based on a true story. Is it predictive...yes, is it feel good..yes. It is a great story, with great characters. One of the best movies, if not the best movie I've seen this year. 5 out of 5 shovels. Good for all ages.

YES!! I finally got to watch it on Tuesday. DH even liked it. And yes, the scamming and scandal are so, so British! They just love to gossip about their Monarchy! Plus so hard to be a woman in power during that age. It's going to be a great show.

Started watching Superman last night in netflix. Been a long while I have seen it. It is so amusing to see it and see the technology variance at that time..no mobile phones, internet, still wide use of typewriters..a time most of us are familiar with then. Will continue binge watching today the rest of the Superman movies. Rainy day anyways, nice to just curl up indoors as we do other household chores.

Watching Netflix series Medici (Dustin Hoffman). I love period pieces and this one does Mir disappoint.

Saw a movie called Paulie last night. Really cute and interesting adventure of a very interactive talking parrot looking for its master. Enjoyed it a lot!

The winds were still howling last night, and I don't want to sleep, well, can't sleep right away as you hear the angry winds, so kept watching, this time a movie called Fairy Tale: A True Story. Enchantingly nice..makes you think was it really true or a hoax. I researched more online about it, apparently the incident did happen. But some confessions of hoax came about in the 1980's from the children who were by then older. Whether true or not, the setting was truly magical looking, and it is sad how people encroach stuff recklessly trying to find truth about it.

Saw Hidden Figures yesterday. Really loved it. My dad worked at NASA in Houston during the Gemini and Apollo missions when I was a kid. Sure wish I could ask him about these amazing women, if he knew them etc. since the movie was set before NASA was based in Houston. I remember him talking about training the astronauts.

I loved Paulie. Watched it years and years ago. I'm finally watching the new Alice Through the Looking Glass. It's pretty good so far--light, comical, magical.

Went to see Live By Night, a bit simplistic and predictable but a rather entertaining film.

Ben Affleck may be liberal twit but his films are far better than his dweeb brother.

No one knew about the female pilots in WW2 until years later.

We saw Hidden Figures last night. Truly inspiring, courage and perseverance against very trying times. Makes you admire how things were done so manually before, no computer simulations. Got to be really brave to do outer space journeys.

As I write this, I am listening to Party LIne Radio on a small town station from Little Falls, Minnesota.
It is the old time radio, that even many large stations used to have in the morning (A few still do but they are very few now) and talk about local, state and national in a manner that conveys local society verses fly-over attitude that TV and too many long range radio stations convey.

Even the local stations are stopping live programs like this and have automated shows ---- ( which becomes obvious when some thing goes wrong and the station goes dead or it is a unit that controls multi-broadcasts and suddenly the normal program kicks-out and something, often for a network far away kicks-in . Some times that is interesting but mostly annoying.) ---- some times because the long time host, decades, has gone to the big radio station in the sky.

I used to listen to Farm Radio often but it has become so bucks-up politically narrow minded and I do not mean conservative that it is no longer really enjoyable.
There used to be, I cannot find it in my area any more, a show called Machinery Pete that was a farm gearheads heaven but as I said it seems to be gone. (From what I have found it seems you have to pay for it as an online service now and it is no longer over the air.)

Do any of you still listen to local radio, AM, or has the net addicted you to it to the point such an idea was something your grandparents used to talk about?

I am not going to lie, I did not even know that AM broadcasts were still being used other than for like middle school or high-school radio shows for tech-ed, etc. I listen to a little bit of "local" FM (some being local and some being filtered and pushed in from elsewhere), but I mainly listen to SiriusXM in the car. At home, we listen to Apple music, Pandora, Spotify, Google music, etc. But we do have some vinyl that we listen to occasionally. Neither of us prefer talk radio, and FM stations talk too much, too many commercials, and just play the same 10 songs over and over--which is why Internet based streaming is so popular. It's direct, on demand, and mostly commercial free. You get to choose what you listen to.
