I assumed SIL meant son-in-law and he was helping return the hens - with permission, certainly. The rest of the advice sounds appropriate.

Tom, here are a couple of shots if her coloring. I really wanted a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, the red adds so much color but I couldn't find one locally, just the Blue Laced. She does have the fluffiest behind!!

Thanks everyone......it was my son in law, not the neighbor. He will not be coming over here until I tell him he can and he knows better because I too know the law and he knows I do. I am his worst nightmare when it comes to following the ordinances in this township. He knows too , not to make me too angry. All that said, he is trying with his new partly finished fence, but there are still two chickens that come over and now they are laying eggs in the horse stall because they are afraid to go to the barn where we catch them. They are so funny and no one can tell me they are not smart. The pony likes the company too. Rolling on the floor laughing

Jared, the only thing about the rabbit is that they will burrow under the fence and get out in time. The best way to protect them from fox or coyotes is to lock them into the coup at night.

Suzanne, she's a beauty. I got my Blue Laced Reds from a private breeder on line. Payed $10. each for 25 straight run, got 20 roosters, and 5 hens! Was a real rip off, but they are pretty. I'm not sure if you know about the blue genetics in chickens, but when you cross two blues, you don't always get blue chickens. Some will be blue, some black, and some will be mostly white, called splash as they have some specks of black in them. The Same goes for the blue lacing in the BLR.

I went out and took some pictures of them and some others too.

I only have 2 hens with the blue lacing, and they were both on the nests, so I'll have to take a better picture later.

I kind of like these as much as the blue ones.

Very colorful flock.

Me too! It's been years since we had chickens, and we travel too much to have any now. I do miss them. Mine were just Rhode island reds. I had no idea there were so many beautiful breeds around!

I do remember you telling me about the blue genetics Tom, when I first was getting my chickens. We are only technically allowed 3 hens in this neighborhood but we had 5 until we lost the 2 in Nov. I want to replace them, especially my favorite, the Speckled Sussex and a local hatchery will have them in June and I also picked a Silver Laced Wyandotte, shown below from My Pet Chicken.com, coming in the same month.
