Can you believe I got my first 2012 seed catalogue this week? It was from Pinetree Seeds (I've never ordered from them, but they keep sending my catalogues anyway).

I think I probably receive at least 20 different seed cataloges. I try to wait until after Christmas to start looking at them, but sometimes I just have to peek.

Do you have any favorite catalogues? Some of mine are Territorial Seed, Johnny's Select Seed, Park Seed (just for their information), Peaceful Valley and Garden Thyme Herbs. I won't even go into the plant catalogues... *Blush*

How can you not peek. I have been known to stand at the mail box while I look them over. Summer Hill Seeds is good. I'm not sure if they have a paper catalogue but the on line site is great. Still waiting for there new seeds for 2012 to show. Whistling

Just got an order from Summer Hill today (like I really needed more seeds Rolling my eyes. )

I think I need a 12-step program for seeds.

The only thing that keeps me from peeking is that I really love to sit and peruse at my leisure after the holidays. It's kind of like cheap therapy Hilarious!

12-step program for seeds. Hilarious! For plants too Big Grin

I just brought my seed box up from the basement. I need to use up what I have. Looks like I had lots of left overs. For sure will have to buy the dragon wing begonia seeds. I love those.
I grew so much stuff last year it was just crazy. Gave lots away to friends and neighbors. Oh and a bunch of stuff at a round up with PNW people on a different site. When the postal gal came to deliver a package (plants of course) this spring she got loaded up with plants. She came back after work. Any of you sell you leftovers on crags list?

I have lots to use up this year as well.. I decided not to buy like crazy and use up what I have.. plan on a lot of WS'ing this year.. but usually buy from summer hill, hazzards, parks, there are a few more I bought from last year.. usually find a new site with something I want and you can't just buy one pack from that site Big Grin

No way, you have to make the shipping cost worthwhile with more seeds. Smiling

It makes me wonder if the seed catalog companies realize that when they arrive before Thanksgiving, they get put in a pile to wait for January. I know I've lost some when they come that early. The ones that come with the Christmas mail get stashed away, too. I would love it to get them the first week of January like we used to, something to look forward to.

Same here, Cathy. After the holidays, I'm ready to start thinking about the upcoming gardening season, and really enjoy perusing the catalogues to start planning my gardening endeavors for the new year.

Lots of wintersowers are grateful for early catalogs. Many plan early, trade for or buy most of their seeds before winter solstice and work according to a plan. I've never been that organized, but many of my wintersowing friends already have seeds and potting mix ready, planned seeds organized into spread sheets, containers prepped, labels made.... I, on the other hand, just fly by the seat of my pants.

Well, I have my potting mix, have bought some new seeds, but haven't updated my spreadsheets yet. I need to start seeds as early as possible, so I usually stock up at the end-of-season sales. I probably wouldn't be this organized, but since I need to start several hundred seedlings for our Master Gardeners demonstration herb beds and plant sale, I really need to stay on top of it.

That being said, I can't resist looking through the new catalogues for something new or "I just can't live without that" type of seeds *Blush*

I love looking at the catalogs too, even if I'm not looking for anything in particular.

I won't be starting a lot of seeds this year, not much space left to plant in my yard. But I'm always looking for that perfect new plant to tuck in here and there. Definitely no more coneflowers unless I trash some old ones- my flower beds are too full of them now.

Hilarious! Well, at least you showed control! You've never grown them before, right? If so, you'll be in zinnia heaven. Best of all, no powdery mildew ever, even here in hot, humid mildew heaven.

I've given up on the other types of zins, just because of the PM.
