Now in the airport lounge with a dry white wine - at security they asked, "what's in the package?" then asked, "what's rhizomes?" Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing
DH is in Vienna and flies to Nice tomorrow - he doesn't yet know the good news. I'm still smiling - I had really given up on them. Big Grin I think I'll call them my drama queen irises.

My Absolute Treasure rhizome I purchased on ebay arrived yesterday and it is huge healthy rhizome with 2 offsets Hurray!

I have been curious about how this hybrid came to Australia because I have never seen it for sale at the iris nurseries. I did some googling about the lady I bought if from and it turns out she is a retired iris grower and she used to have a nursery. Her name is Colleen Modra and there are a few hybrids in our database and Twiki under her name. I also found a recommendation for her nursery on Dave's Garden from a customer in USA. What a pity she is retired.

Bonnie, I checked back and they were posted on 26 April, so 34 days by my reckoning. Quite a journey, indeed.

34 days...... that has to be a record. I'll bet you will still get blooms out of these irises next spring. Smiling

I wonder if Rainbow Ridge will consider sell irises internationally now. How were they packed Mika?

That would be wonderful - I drool when I look through their catalogue! But they only agreed to send them to an Australian address (the hotel where DH was staying). I can't say how they were packed - John said the packaging was covered in Rainbow Ridge logos and info, so he repacked them.
I'll email RR to tell them of the safe arrival - perhaps a little encouragement! Big Grin

I sent an email to Rainbow Ridge three weeks ago to ask them about a photo of an iris for sale on their website that does not match the Twiki description nor the photo on another iris vendors website. I also asked them if they had any Leinster Ellen Jean iris left which they are offering at half price at the moment. I have not heard a reply. Shrug! I find them unwelcoming.

Communication is a big plus with anyone I do business with. If it is non existent then they go off my list. I try not to be a pest but sometimes it would be so easy for them to respond with a yes or no. I know they have a lot of queries at this time of year but even the response that they received my message and cannot respond now but would later would be sufficient. Shrug! Several years ago I bought a potted rhizome from an established nursery. It grew and bloomed as the wrong iris. I emailed the vendor with photos stating that I did not need a replacement as I liked the one I bought from them better than the one I bought originally. I did request that they look at my photo and tell me its name if possible. First answer was they would pass the message along to someone in 'that department'. I emailed 'that department'. Next msg from 'that department' was that they would pass my message along to 'their expert'. I emailed 'their expert'. There has been no further communication. There will be no further communication from me to them.

Hilarious! Bonnie. That is so comical if you ignore the fact that it is annoying. I agree with you that it is not worth doing business with a company if it isn't a pleasant experience which is why I haven't emailed them again or called them.

Happy you got your Absolute Treasure, Robin! Hurray!

Don't ask me how, but I am familiar with the squealing and the happy dance which happen when you find that an iris you _must have_ is suddenly available at a vendor who actually ships to your location! Big Grin

I so agree with you, Bonnie! I received a noid instead of a pricey one last year...sent photos of the blooming noid, etc. - received a noncommital response, " I don't know if I can i.d. this" then...nothing. This grower didn't get an order from me this year.
On the other hand, I recognize what a huge job it is to keep it all straight! But you're right, Bonnie, good communication is a plus, and I can think of several growers who have my loyalty and gratitude because they took the time to respond to my concerns.

Their catalog has been tempting with it for years. Not sure why I never ordered it though... Blinking
