I would be terribly scared in a big flood. Water is very powerful!

Jerry, Judith Eileen looks wonderful! Rolling my eyes.

Judith Eileen, Lavon, Hermione, Fragrans, and Chestine Gowdy were all chosen as fragrant peonies. Some more than others but they each have some fragrance.

Do they have similar fragrance, Jerry? What do they smell like? I am really excited about Chestine Gowdy. Someone had commented in another forum that it smells heavenly.

It's been a year since I smelled them. I shall give them "the smell test" as they bloom.

Anya, read up on the flood in Fairbanks in 1967. I had only been married a month when the Chena overflowed and flooded just about everything. People ran/boated for College Hill (where the university is). Lots were evacuated there also. Our house went under by two feet and the basement and first floor of our apartment building went under enough that they were driving boats to the front door for people to get in to go help others.

We had another 2 inches of rain in the past 24 hours. Brings the total up to 8 inches in the week since Friday. More expected.

Mary Stella that sounds terrible!

We have had 8 inches of rain this week since Friday with strong winds continuously. It is amazing any peonies survived. Too windy today for a closeup of the blossoms. Noid single and Hot Chocolate.

Jerry,

You pink NOID looks like one of my rescued peonies. I saved it in November 2014 or 2015 from one abandon garden. My best guess would be Dancing Butterflies. I love this peony, because I love single flowers. Did you say that this is one is the first to bloom in your garden?

Yes, it is the first of the standard peonies to bloom. I have no idea of its true name since it came from either Lowe's or Walmart several years ago, mislabeled of course. I have 3 different clumps so 2 will be dug and discarded.

Jerry, I love your NOID single! If nobody wants it I will take a division (will have to squeeze it somewhere since the most sunny spots are taken). I hate an idea to waste it!

Anya, assuming that is the same variety as mine, they don't need the full sun. A couple of hours of the sun daily will be enough for them to bloom. They will reward you with many happy flowers. Smiling

Anya, I forget to tell you, these pin NOIDs are kind or low growing and the leaves are quite neat. If you need a small peony walk you can plant them around the pathway all the way, this is the plant for that.

Thank you, Jasmin! Did you buy it also at Lowe's or Wallmart?

Jerry, how high is the pink single NOID? Actually it looks like Sparkling Star but it is 30" according to the description. I looked also at other early single pinks, there are a few hybrids which is probably unlikely that Lowe's or Wallmart would sell them but I might be wrong.

I have 3 clumps in 3 different locations and each appears to be shorter than the average peony. Measured 25" to 28" to the tallest blossom. Most stems are a bit shorter than that.

Jerry, mine is also on a smaller side. That's why I think it is Dancing Butterflies. The plant probably came from China where it is known as Fen Yu Nu.

Here is more aboyt Fen Yu Nu:

http://www.paeo.de/aaa/01821.h...

I noticed this peony in 2013 while I was looking for Snow Lotus Rockii. China Plants had wholesale prices (i.e., 1$) and I wanted to buy at least 10 Fen Yu Nus to make a peony walk. Eventually I found out that I could not import plants from China, so I had to give up. They translated Fen Yu Nus as "Pink Minion".

Anya, I don't really buy herbaceous peonies. All 12 herbaceous peonies that I have were rescued. They were either taken from neglected gardens, or they were "orphan" plants left to slowly die in a store, or they were thrown in a thrash bin, etc. I save this pink NOID from an abandon garden in my neighborhood. I was in late November, I think 2014. I also remember that it had started snowing a day after I brought it home. It was such a nice surprise to see it blooming.

I don't have lots of sun in the garden, and since I really like TPs, all sunny and semi-shade spots were saved for my TPs. The herbaceous peonies are just the fillers or "ground-covers". That's why I don't buy them. Instead, I give a second chance to the plants that would certainly die otherwise. However, all of them are doing just fine. They will never have that many blooms as those planted in the full sun, but the peonies are saved, and very much alive. Smiling

Jasmin, I think you are right - it is very likely that it is the little Medicine Man and most of descriptions say it's low. Actually and fragrant. I love it and will find a place for it. I have Sparkling Star in the ground and hope it will grow, these two look very similar on pictures. Jasmin, I don't buy TPs but herbaceous peonies, I have enough frustration with herbaceous ones though theoretically can grow some kind of TP. You have a very green thumb! I tip my hat to you.

This is a more realistic pic of Judith Eileen taken under other light conditions. Colors tend to be about the same as Lavon.

Early pics of Lavon and Raspberry Sundae. This year has been rough on peonies. Everything is late and the blossoms are not quite up to normal par.

Your Raspberry Sundae is gorgeous, Jerry! The color is such a lovely cool pink.
